Following on from our beginners course I'll be leading an improvers spin out onto the awesome 3 Rock this Saturday morning. We'll meet at the lower car park in Ticknock at 10am. For those of you who are feeling frisky, I'll be starting from Taylors 3 Rock (http://www.madmtb.com/maps/map_ticknock_carpark.htm)about 9:40.

It'll be a easy (http://www.madmtb.com/clubrides/ride-grades/) level spin, so it’s all about getting to know the trails a bit better and working on technical skills (hmm, track stand competition is coming to mind ).

We'll finish up around 12:30, but I'll be sticking around for hour or 2 afterwards for some high octane MTB action :D if anyone is interested.

I'll be looking for some beautiful MAD assistants to help out.

If you fancy joining MAD, bring along your application forms and subs also.

As usual, Helmet, pump, a couple of spare tubes, water and a bit of food are required… and a bike.

Stick a post up if interested.

Hi Richie, I couldn't make the beginners courses earlier this month but would it be OK to head along on Saturday?

Sure Niall, come along and give it a go. At the very worst you'll be terribly injured or horrifically disfigured.

In case people are wondering what's the difference between a beginners spin and an easy spin, you can read all here:
http://www.madmtb.com/clubrides/ride-grades/

Basically there won't be as much stopping...

Yep, as long as you have the bits listed in the first post you're grand. Don't led Morgan scare you - for the record, no beginners have died on a spin I've led - came close on the DH run at the back of 3 rock last week, but we all had a good laugh about it afterwards...:o

I'd love to... actually I even really need that: I bought clips and keep on falling when it gets tough ... ;-)
But my family comes over this weekend... however, I might be ok for a night ride in the week, or at definitely next weekend!

Thanks

Arnaud

Bring your rain gear!!

Wet windy weather spreading from the Atlantic LATE FRIDAY NIGHT or DAYTIME SATURDAY - up to 15 - 30 mm of rain in places (mainly over the western half of the country), strong southwest winds gusting over 90 km/h locally. Clearer drier weather following SATURDAY EVENING/SATURDAY NIGHT, winds veering west and easing a good deal

Don't care about he weather. After nearly 8 months off - I'll be there too.
Anyway - mud makes for softer landings

Thats the attitude Ben!

Folks, as Phil said - bring out the water proof or quick drying gear for Sat. We might miss the showers, but if not, a drop of rain never killed anyone :D

Last minute reminder - 10 am in the Lower Ticknock car park, or 9.30ish in Taylors pub. Be prepared for some rain...

20 plus hardy souls braved the inclement weather today for our improver's spin around 3 Rock. Turned out it was the wind - not the rain that made things more challenging.

Once in the forest - out of the wind and rain, the spin picked up. Took in most of the trails - Satellite run, Rock and Roll, the t junction, Blue oyster (about 5 times!), old mad club course, no dabs, the DH course (where Oisin showed us how to take a big jump on a hardtail), rip ride, and a few other odds n' sods.

Afterwards myself, Oisin, Gene, Chris and Paul headed back up for a bit more, pretty much taking in the same loop again.

Thanks to everyone for coming out, and hope to see your out at our improvers spin next week.

nice one lads and ladies, looks the 'summer' has us pre-hardened for the 'winter', people will go out in any conditions now.....

There was a serious "hardcore" element to the spin today - seems like all the new members are fitting in perfectly!

Thanks for yesterday lads, it was great fun (as I think about it today) though the weather wasn't funny at all. When I saw that rain and heard that wind yesterday morning I wasn't sure if I wanted to go out and make my bike catch a cold. And when I couldn't see the road while driving I kept telling myself that I must be mad... But we all survived - somehow ;) And the satisfaction afterwards was priceless.
Anyway, it seems to be easier every time so I have the feeling that the real fun will just begin.

Well done Agata, you got it right - It seems to be easier every time.
They were some impressive cartwheels you were trying too :-)

See you again...

I didn't get there until about 10.15 yesterday and spent the next two hours looking for everyone...oops:rolleyes: Still had fun though on a few trails and saw a tree falling onto the back of someones merc!! The wind was mental!!
I'll arrive early next time:)

Yes, that was my car :( Did you see it happening? I came back from the spin and the tree was across the back of the car. Fortunately, the trunk missed and it was only the lighter branches that landed on the car, so no damage done. Gave me a bit of a start when I saw it from a distance though!

Also, that was the toughest spin I was on yet, didn't think I would make it to the end. Cycled/walked up the tarmac at the start and had the strange experience of freewheeling uphill... I need to work on my fitness a lot.

Seen it happening alright, I was parked beside your car. I had just started cycling up the hill, turned round to check the car was ok and saw the tree falling....if it fell a few feet to the right it would have squashed my car:eek:
Glad to hear there's no damage done tho!
