Weather is looking good (http://www.accuweather.com/ukie/forecast.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&postalcode=EUR;IE;EI006;DUBLIN;&metric=1)so whats on?

I'm not around on Saturday, but plan on doing a long spin on Sunday somewhere, open to suggestions.

Who's leading the Improvers on Saturday?

Anything else? Shame to waste the nice weather we've been having (apart from last Saturday that is)...

I'm definitely up for a long Sunday Spin Richie.

not sure if I can make it.. but

you can get a good long spin starting from crone carpark.

up the switchback climb
down into the valley and over to ack
out to ballinastoe on the road and then a lap
climb the board walks up Djouce (although they might be busy on a Sunday)
the grassy descent
back down ack and take in all the wonders of Djouce
powerscourt shop
and up the fireroad to crone again

it is fairly savage, and the nice thing is its a long spin but tones of singletrack

I can do an improvers spin on Saturday, where to go though?

Could show people that excellent trail from top of Ballinastoe over sleepers into Ack and Djouce. What does everyone think?

Phil

Only problem with that is as Graham pointed out, its prone to be full of walkers on a decent weekend.

Might be worth looking at Tribbraden, Back of Curagh, Cruagh and back down to the merry plough boy for a pint rather than going over the top of Djouce this time of year with an improver's spin.

Liam
29-10-2008, 11:45 AM
Can do that if you can remind me of the way Ollie. You coming too Phil?

Phil
29-10-2008, 12:13 PM
Cant make it Saturday unfortunately, will be out Sunday however.

paddyobrien
29-10-2008, 12:15 PM
i may be out for both, but will depend on friday nights wedding related festivities

Phil
29-10-2008, 12:23 PM
I'm getting suspicious of you and your weddings Paddy..nobody knows that many people getting married!... are you infact a professional wedding crasher?

paddyobrien
29-10-2008, 12:30 PM
thankfully after this i don't think theres any more scheduled till next April.

And might i add that film completely exaggerated the quality of single women at weddings :-(

Richie

Might be worth looking at Tribbraden, Back of Curagh, Cruagh and back down to the merry plough boy for a pint rather than going over the top of Djouce this time of year with an improver's spin.

You'll probably end up having the same problem with large numbers of walkers on the route from the woccas to Tirbradden with the new trail having been opened.

ballinastoe itself could be good, do the normal coillte trails and then ahve a run at a few sections of the blast course. As far as i know all the wood work etc is gone but the trails themselves should still be there.

diamondG
29-10-2008, 01:00 PM
I'd heard all the woodwork was gone too

but bar the two jumps on the upper fireroad, the rest seems intact, complete with northshore woodwork in the gulley track..

ah no...that one will also be removed before the weekend..ypu know Ballinastoe from Djouce without going over the boardwalks..its tricky to find but basically if you come from Douce woods up to where the gate is..
just go left over the wall and follow the fence around to the left..
then cut right ,watch out for the holes , past the house and you will get to Ballinastoe..its savage singletrack , but its better than theboardwalks, no walkers, but coming from Ballinastoe back up it is too hard in the winter..

ah Richie, I've a big bike arriving Friday, don't you dare dismantle those jumps this weekend

Richie Byrne

sorry, no choice..Mr Coillte was on to us about them..he even sent us nice pictures of ancient ones we don't know the location of !!

What did you end up choosing Grahamo?

Richie
29-10-2008, 02:21 PM
Terrible news on the xtc C0 Steve - they've sold out in my size!!! whaaaaaa :(
Still have a couple of C1's though. Better than a kick in the goolies I guess...

Scrivo
29-10-2008, 02:28 PM
Sounds good man! OR put 500-600 into the cube (that would put it no more than a lb heavier than the C1) and buy a big bike with the rest!!!

Now for my dilemna.... Buy that Giant TCR advertised by Asa on mtbireland or go snowboarding with college. Have to decide by tomorrow :(

Jarek

lads,

any chance we could do this a bit earlier? starting 9am from ballinastoe parking and have the extra hour to be spent on the bike?

TomH
29-10-2008, 02:41 PM
Go snowboarding Steve it'll be unreal and it is so cheap,..I would love to be going but funds are seriously low :(...you can buy a bike anytime,...

I am definitely free this weekend. However, I have only done a few trips to ballinastoe by myself. Am I out of my league if I go on Saturday?

Not at all, it'll be mostly the coillte trails, with a bit of the blast and some other bits - nice and handy.

Jarek - the start time will probably stay at 10am, but nothing stopping you heading there for 9 and getting a sneaky lap in (apart from a lack of transport to Ballinastoe that is)...

Jarek
29-10-2008, 03:34 PM
yeah, good idea, if anyone interested going there a bit earlier let me know, can give 1 person a lift

mel

I might come out myself. Can somebody clarify meeting point and time?

Agata

lads,

There is nothing before, saturday's world doesn't exist before 10am.

Liam
29-10-2008, 04:28 PM
LOL, yes, the world doesn't actually exist until 10am on Saturdays.

Anyway, looks like we'r going to Ballinastoe then, that makes the meeting point Ballinastoe carpark at 10AM! Well it gives time for people to get there.

All improvers welcome. Helmet, enthusiasm, warm clothing and of course bike required.

mel
29-10-2008, 04:56 PM
Ah - is there a spin on Sunday as well then? can't do Saturdays cause I got lectures...

Oisin
29-10-2008, 06:08 PM
Well I'm up for something on Sunday. Been to Three Rock loads recently so maybe somewhere different. Djouce or Sugarloaf?

Conor
29-10-2008, 06:34 PM
I should be around for sunday, if the sniffles I have dont turn into a cold. The Sugarloaf sounds good, but my pace wont be up to yourself or Mel!

mel
29-10-2008, 07:16 PM
Conor - no worries, I've put on half a stone and lost all my fitness over the last few weeks - you'll be grand!

Liam
29-10-2008, 08:15 PM
Well if its not race pace I'd love to try the sugarloaf.

Sean
29-10-2008, 09:12 PM
Depending on the weather, Sugar Loaf might not be the best idea, if its any way windy or stormy....

mel
29-10-2008, 09:33 PM
Ok - so since I am now also involved with the TCD cycling club I'm organizing a spin in Djouce Woods for any trinners on Sunday leaving at 10am from Djouce lower car park, but MAD people are just as welcome. This will be mostly a social spin and suitable to any intermediates. Ryan will be there too, so if people want to have a bit of a faster spin we can split into groups. Text me (086 1093557) or leave a comment if you are coming.

I'm up for Richies original idea of a longish spin, Grahams suggested route sounds good to me.
Richie does this sound good to you? I think Ollie and Tom are up for it, any other takers??

Richie Byrne
30-10-2008, 09:18 AM
Hey Mel,
I'll see you in Djouce for 10.00 on Sunday along with about 50 screaming EPIC members on our once a month social spin..

Yep, Crone car park at 10am, up Maulin, around the back of powerscourt, might take a look at the trail Richie was talking about too instead of taking the road to Ballinastoe, then back over the boardwalks to Djouce for a lash around there.

Phil
30-10-2008, 09:24 AM
Sound, see you bright and early Sunday morning

So is there a spin this sunday leaving from Crone Car Park or has this turned into a savage spin with 20 epics lads, Mr. Gaypants wats-is-name and Mel?

Scrivo
31-10-2008, 02:00 PM
There is only one way* to settle this dispute between Fergal, Paddy and Shane. 80mm hardtails, top of Maulin. Extra points fo lightweight carbon bits and no body armour. First to the bottom has slagging rights for all time.

*There are other ways but that would just turn into a bloody mess with the guns on Fergal :P

Richie Byrne
31-10-2008, 02:16 PM
let me clarify Hotpants o Hagan..there will be no savage EPIC spin..its a social spin..so there will be arobically challenged people out, so you can come along if you want to..MAD benders, i mean members are always welcome on an EPIC spin..
Tightpants

mel
31-10-2008, 02:24 PM
lol - jackie - well, I don't think there will be many tcd people turning up (since we still have no bikes nor transport), but I'll be at Djouce 10am Sunday anyway for anyone who would like to go on a nice spin. Depending on where the EPIC lads and mr tightlord gaypants go, we can join them or do our own thing - you planning to come out so?

jackieo
31-10-2008, 03:53 PM
