What helmet would you guys recommend for xc and trails?
I don't need a full face.
Price range 80 - 120 euro.
Thanks

the best helmet is the one that fits you right .. simple as that.
They all have to pass the same safety standards, so the only reason to get a more expensive one is to make them lighter/have more air vents for teh same strength.
If you know what type and size you need then buy online (i.e. if replacing a broken one or something), otherwise, you really are best off buying one in a shop where you can try em on.

That's interesting....
So let me get this right, generally all Helmets offer the same protection/strength, just the more expensive ones are lighter or let more air in?
I have bought a Xen online but its coated with material so not very suitable for cleaning. Was going to exchange it but just wondered if there was anything neater on offer. It's quite large & heavier than a helmet i'm currently using.
Are all the Giro MTB Helmets quite bulky?
Anyone any opinions on the Giro E2?
Cheers.

As Paddy said, all helmets have to meet certain minimum safety standards, but I think some may exceed these.
I find the fit of helmets to vary quite a bit between brands, Met helmets fit my noggin better than Giro helmets. The Met Kaos is nice an light and CRC are doing a half price deal at the moment.

e2 is a nice light helmet
and has the plastic outter shell
i have had mine over a year and used it for everthing and only had to change the pads recently
but do try one on somewhere first as i was a large in a havoc but a medium in an e2

i've used the Giro Xen ones for a few years now .. as they fit me quite well. Not sure what you mean about being covered with material? Do you mean the hard plastic shell on it?
As for lightness .. not really sure how they stack up compared to others but that doesn't overly bother me to be honest

the xen has like a rubbery/plastic material on them well the new ones do anyway
which is a pain in the back to clean easily
The Hex and Zen offer lower protection on the back of the head than most helmets and for that reason are considered by most reviews to be better for mtb. I've used the cheaper of the two (can't remember which one that is) for over a year and more that happy with it (it's been seriously tested against trees\ground a few times, I should probably replace it). Also tightens up good and tight on the head easily so it doesn't move around, even with a relatively heavy night light on it.

One of the Xen models is actually covered in fabric (http://www.giro.com/site/#/product/cycling/mountain/xen/). That might be OK in the desert but here on Mud Island it's not ideal. Kind of like those fur-covered saddles SDG used to make.
