View Full Version : Need a shitty road bike

Dave

Heya lads,

After the last hike in bus far I'm a bit disillusioned with the overall cost of getting about Dublin by bus every week (I spent €11.60 on bus fare from Thursday to Saturday).

So I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get a fairly shitty lookin but possibly reliable road/racer style bike? I'm willing to buy a 'fixer upper' too.

If nobody has any they'd be willing to sell I'd be content with a guess on how much one would cost.

Thanks,

Dave

Try 'Buy and Sell', prices start at 5 euro, and go up from there.

Yep, Buy and Sell or Adverts.ie and maybe even eBay or post on the epic buy and sell as they seem to have a fair amount of stuff on there.

Child fare Dave, bus conductors don't exist anymore and bus drivers are too bored to care how old you are!

Walkin is good, if that don't do it for you then you should try www.dublinwaste.ie ....no joke, they have bikes and stuff on there for free, you just have to go pick them up.

if its dangerous dave, just slap slicks on your mtb, lock it up and off you go!

only cost you the price of a new set of tires!

dave i know what you mean, busses really drain you of your cash! so what you gotta do is get yourself a good old steel rigid and slap some slicks on it. you don'thave to worry about it being stolen in town because lets face it, it looks like shoite, but that doesn't mean it don't go like the clappers!

this is what i use:

you can make your life a lot easier by spending 20 or 30 quid on proper full length mudguards. Infinitely better than any crappy plastic clip on ones, and they make you bike look even worse and so less nickable!

I saw a few road bikes in reasonable condition outside the Cycle Inn last weekend. Might be worth dropping over for a look.

while we're on the topic of road bikes, does anyone know the equivalent frame size of a mountain bike in road bike sizes?

if i have a 19-20inch mtb, is that equivalent to a 58cm racer?

Cheers Morgan, I'll drop in during the week. I was checking out the BeOne Briza and Storm all right Barry. Good price - no real idea on how good the spec's are.

well it's hard to say bob, it depends on the brand of the road bike because different company's have different signature frames. For example trek road bikes have sloping downward toptubes which means there seat tubes are bigger and therefore a large in a trek should be 58-60cm frame if i remember. Where as a lapierre road frame has a flat or a slightly sloping upwards toptube and means there seat tubes are smaller so a large could be 56-58cm frame. Best way is to sit on one but if your looking online just have a look at the toptube in the pic and gauge it that i guess! The bike brand's homepage should have a sizing chart as well. i know that i'm a 52cm in a lapierre road frame and i'm 5foot 10

i was looking at the beone briza 1.0 it looks like its good enough value for €367, might start saving...

If you're still looking for a crap bike, I'm clearing out the garage and getting rid of this.

18 inch British Eagle with Reynolds 531 on main tubes. Needs a fair bit of work, but would work as a fixie for using around town.
