Apparently it is in Moneyscalp and Tollymore forests. They are fairly close so think they are linking them up somehow.
Nahh, it is in Moneyscalp which is 'owened' by Tollymore. Few climbs, nothing major, and good singletrack is the word on the street...

I will most probably go there but only for a race.
Is it the location near the place where Irish XC Championships were last year?
:) Hope to be a little bit fitter in tow weeks ;)

Liam, you'd get up there in 1 hr 15 or so from the Northside, so bear that in mind - motorway all the way to Newry!
I think I'll head up early Sat for practice, and head back after a few laps, then I can take my time on Sunday not having to rush a practice lap
Martin

how does the location rate in relation to Killruddery?
Fergal
10-03-2008, 02:26 PM
well, I don't think anyone we know has ridden the full track up there, so can't really say, if the dh track is anything to go by it's going to be good

Richie
18-03-2008, 04:56 PM

Howie

Lads is it possible to head up on the sunday and register and then race,
im not around on the saturday
Morgan
19-03-2008, 11:40 AM
That's fine - just leave yourself a bit more time in the morning to get signed on.
ianog
19-03-2008, 12:05 PM
Thats fine Morgan would 10am be early enough?
Morgan
19-03-2008, 12:10 PM
Probably - I wouldn't leave it any later though. It's amazing how quickly the time before a race goes. You'll have to arrive, sign on, get you and the bike ready, pre-ride the course, eat, chat etc. and before you know it the race will be starting. I nearly missed the start of the K-Cap the other week (and it went downhill from there...)
ianog
19-03-2008, 12:15 PM
Ok i will get there early so, Thank man.

hmmm. Sounds like a 5lap affair. "wintery showers" - Deadly... I love them I do
paddyobrien
19-03-2008, 01:25 PM
5 laps? jaysus i hope its only 4 for the masters, i'll be dead by the end of 4 anyway
Fergal
19-03-2008, 01:43 PM
nah - pretty sure it'll be 5, it's only 5km, though the wintry showers will make it feel like 10km
time for a tyre change you reckon Steve?
might run the 'marks for Sat and see how it goes, though I'd say kobbly side-lugs will be the order of the day to handle off-cambered wet-rootyness......
Morgan
19-03-2008, 01:58 PM
Hang on just a minute. I just bought a pair of Crossmarks yesterday and now you're telling me they don't have kobbly side-lugs? That's the last time I ask you for advice.
Cormac
19-03-2008, 02:26 PM
it's part Fergals dastardly plan to scupper you chances on sunday Morgan.
I have just put on some conti Vapours and Racing Ralphs, so it had better dry by the weekend.........
Oisin
19-03-2008, 03:46 PM
kobbly side-lugs are overrated.
Fergal
19-03-2008, 04:08 PM
hang-on - did I say kobbly? what the hell does that mean?
Morgan, did you go into the Superstore and ask for 'kobbly' side-lug tyres?
were you thrown-out?
ha-hhhaaaaggghhhhhh!!!! ahhhh Ted, ya big eejit!!!
you're dead right though Oisin - 'kobbles' make you feel like your tyres will grip more but it's all in the head
Morgan, bring those tyres back, the Crossmarks are fine, they flex really well and deform to the profile of the roots, kinda like an octopus tentacle, I watched them do it, amazing.....
"OctoGrip" or "TentacleLug" tyres - now I'd definitely buy tyres with that name, I think I'll start a rumour, yeah, on MTBIreland - that lot will wet themselves with excitement, they love the tyre-talk...
Oh, I forgot, I can't post there anymore...
Morgan! - start the rumour on my behalf - though don't tell them I told you....
paddyobrien
19-03-2008, 04:20 PM
you were banned from mtbireland?

paddyobrien

Not that much gets posted there anymore mind you

Can some kind Gent give me a lend of a L/XL Club jersey please? BTW, what's the deal with the new club gear?

did you try the 'forgot your password' option? I have a feeling i had to use this. Think the original accoutn was still there but the password had got messed up or something.
Or i could be talking nonsense as usual
Oisin
20-03-2008, 01:49 PM
Didn't work for me either so I emailed Dave Gill and he set me up. There must be something wrong with the software.
paddyobrien
20-03-2008, 01:58 PM
i just had to do the forgot my password option on the epic site too, despite never changing either of them.
once i had done that the epic site still had all the old PMs etc there
[OFFER]
Sorry guys, meant to say earlier...
Have room for one more on Sat, not sure about Sunday yet though.
let me know if you want a lift.

OK, I'll own up. It was not a tummy bug that kept me away from Kilruddery, it was the fear of Fergal's sleeveless jersey and the shame of showing my gun show - WITH farmers freckly tan! Oh the shame!
Anyone have directions to Tollymore??

Please be aware that the Circuit of Ireland Rally will be based in the Newcastle area over the weekend so it is advisable to plan your route to Moneyscalp avoiding both Newcastle and Castlewellan.
The favoured routes would be Banbridge/Rathfriland, following the Castlewellan Road to Kilcoo and veering right up the hill, a road which will bring you directly to Moneyscalp.
Travelling from Newry the best route is to Hilltwom then follow signs for Castlewellan.
This route will proceed to Kilcoo, again take the road off to the right which goes uphill.
Another route is exit Hilltwon and follow signs for Newcastle/Killkeel/Spelga Dam.
Approx 4 miles out of Hilltown a left turn is made onto the Newcastle road, this leading to Moneyscalp.
