Hey guys and girls,

i am thinking of going ghetto on my bike, have many of you tried it?, what is this 'wheel milk' your supposed to use. Is it that the copydex stuff I've heard people referring to?. Rob, I think you said you had done it, how's it working out?

you may have seen morgans reply to a similar post on epic, but incase you haven't, here is the link he posted.

looks very easy to undestand unlike many other sites i've seen explaining ghetto tubeless.

need to makesure the tires your going to explore with are almost new, as you may have picked up nicks and tears on older ones, new tires should be without holes, i've used stans, and its easy the kit is on crc,

one tip this takes patience, as inflating the tubes can be like trying to get it up after 10 pints, no matter how you pump it stays down! then again your sexy tom you'll have no problem getting it up!

I found copydex to be utterly useless Tom - I used Stans solution (or Joes is supposed to be good also) and it works just fine for me - I have it on both bikes - no probs with either.

these are the tubes you need: http://chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=24799

if you want to avoid wrecking the threads on the valve core get one of these coz you'll use it fairly often

the Stans http://www.notubes.com/support_movies.php videos are good for a few tips as it'll save you some hassle

When trying to seat the bead of the tyre I find it's best to have this playing in the background.

Can anybody tell me how to seat the bead on my rear tyre after Sunday? Have tried everything, including that link Morgan put up but it just wont seal! Is it possible that the bead has become too stretched as it is easy to put the tyre on and off the rim without tyre levers nows. (it used to be much harder)

are they ust tires and rims or a ghetto system?

UST tyres on UST rims. Have tried the soapy water and tyre milk but it just wont seat..

allegedly you should never use tire levers on UST tires as you can damage the rim. You should be able to get them on and off with just your fingers anyway.

Make sure the bead is seated properlt in the center groove in the rim, and especially thats its seated well around the valve as unless this is all airtight you'll never get the air into the tire in order to get it to seat properly.

You could always try taking the tire off and rotating it a quater of the way around the rim as it may just be the section around the valve that is damaged

Good advice, cheers Paddy. Will try that!

Are you able to inflate them and hear the pop as the bead seats on the rim? I've found that unless UST tyres are very new they usually need an air compressor to inflate them properly so they sit seal properly. Get yourself down to your local petrol station and use their air compressor.

Dunno how relevant this is to you Steve, but for seating a stubborn ghetto system I put the tyre on, goo in and then tied a flex of rope around the circumference of the tyre, around the tread, then tightened the rope by twisting a bar underneath it. That pushed the bead of the tyre out to the edges of the rim and I was able to get it to seal with some vigourous pumping ... of the tyre ... on the wheel ... this tubeless nonsense is a horrible minefield of innuendo.

Tom, I used UST tyres on my ghetto setup, next time around I will might go for non UST on ghetto, but something with a decent sidewall (Maxxis). I've also noticed there is a lump of solid copydex one of my wheels after 6 months (Steve also experienced this), along the reports from Fergal that the copydex doesn't really seal punctures, I'd also recommend getting some Stan's . Copydex only seems good for sealing the tyre on the rim, after that it isn't much use.

If there is another bluk order for stan's I'd be in on it this time. Where'd you get the stuff cheap Fergal?
