After running the same tyres (well, not the same pair) for the last five years in blissful ignorance I thought I'd never ask this but... what tyres should I buy? I'll be running them tubeless with Stans sealant but is there any point in UST specific ones? They'll be for my race bike so should be pretty quick but able to deal with a bit of slop (like last weekends race). What did Oisin win the Experts with? They'd do.

oh not you again! - always looking for easy answers, always wanting the slackers way-out...tuh!

well now, Oisin, Steve and myself ran Maxxis UST Crossmarks - I found them perfect for that race, also they were perfect for a damp Leadmines spin, handled 3rock last night pretty good too with the right pressure

don't know why I'm giving you all my tips, then again, your leg IS about to fall-off so I guess I should be nice

Schwalbe Nobby Nic are great, a little more expensive than maxxiss, but are bullet proof in UST.

starbike has then in Germany for cheap.

yeah I'll second that, nobby Nick are class!

I'd a 2.25 on the front and it was great, they are really light compared to maxxis too

I've used the Nic before myself - yep, good tyre, nice and light too

If you have been happy with the a particular type of tyre for the last five years, then just stick with them....

Mavic Crossmark UST are really a good find I reckon. Really fast on hardpack yet still grippy on other stuff. Works well for me as a racing tyre.

I put a gash in the side of a UST Nobby Nic within a week of getting it (disagree about being bullet proof Martin), and also put a hole in the side of a Maxxis Medusa UST mud tyre which wouldn't seal cause it was too near the bead but I put this down to bad luck and not the quality of the tyre.

I also ran a pair of Panaracer Fire XC Pro UST for ages which were brilliant and strong, but they're slow compared with Crossmark on hard pack although I find the grip is better. I'd buy them again as a general trail tyre though.

i really like hte hutchinson tires in terms of speed, and richie felle swears by the bulldogs in conditions such as the race there at the weekend. I'm not so sure though, but have only ever used a fairly worn version.

But then again, once its muddy i'm generally all over the shop anyhow, no matter whats on the bike

Last time I give away my secrets to you two! Don't get them Morgan, they're brutal! ;)

Schwalbe Racing Ralphs UST.

Grippy but very fast (like, almost road bike fast...)

Similarly, Nokian NBX Lites UST are cool too.

I've used both in summer and winter conditions and they're fine.

You need UST tyres to make the Stan's conversion work in Irish conditions - lighter tyres with weak sidewalls will roll straight off the rim as soon as you leave the tarmac. Despite all the morkeshing on the Stan's site.

morkeshing? how very D4 of you.
