With our present artic like conditions i was thinking of upgrading my lower leg covering from the traditional god given hair to something a bit more sustantial.
As an alleged downhiller i have a bit of an aversion to all that is tight and shiny so i need some of ye xc lads advice. Was looking at the leg warmers on crc, they seem to be quite cheap but do they do the job or am i better off going all the way and getting tights?
Get proper heavy-weight bibtights for the winter. You won't regret it.
Leg/arm warmers are great for cool summer evenings and marginal spring or autumn days, but not enough to stave off our lovely winter conditions. Occasionally you come across a pair that are fleece lined, but if its cold enough to warrant using them, its probably cold enough to warrant proper tights & jacket anyway.
Still think its mad the amount of people I see flying around town in their bogball shorts and socks in the snow....

recession recession recession, I'd just get the leg warmers, I find them grand, and probably 20 yoyos.. compared to crazy money for bib tights
its all about the penny pinching now, sure I've even started saving!!!
bib tights are cool for long XC spins but for DH sessions I just use the warmers

Wasn't planning on using them for dh, i find all you need is body armour, dh top, baggie shorts and some knee/shinguards and a whole lot of stokedness to keep you warm :)
Planning on getting into some xc spins but not necessarily mega long ones, what would you wear on the wednesday spins?

I've had a pair of these since I first started! (>3.5yrs) The knees are fairly ripped out of them now but still find them the most comfortable I have worn! Can't recommend them enough. Not a bad price either, remember paying a lot more than that when I got them.

I got a pair of Nike leggings in Elvery's nearly 2 years ago and they're deadly! 15euro or so and tough as you need/want. I still wear them and warm too!
I tried leg warmers but being as im skinny they keep slipping down like Nora Batty's tights, got the club bib tights they are the schnizzel as Fergal would say..

yis all must be loaded with your bib tights
leg warmers all the way, then when you take a tumble and rip the knee its 20 yoyos not 120 (give or take.. 50 or so)
Bibtights are so Celtic tiger.....old news paper wrapped around your legs and held on with cello tape are the new recession chic.

I wear a pair of these over my cyclin shorts with a pair of baggys over, spot on and kept me plenty warm with snow on the ground, although I have hairy legs

Ubettarecognise!
overshoes were the new winter boots, endof!
now of course winterboots are back in..
I bought bib tights last year, they are very effective for long xc spins in cold weather, but overall I didn't warm to them, I felt a bit uncomfortable in them...Now I use a pair of regular Helly Hansen leggings with a pair of shorts for xc spins when I need them...
I did manage a full winter with only shorts when I started with MAD but Sean informed me that it's not great for your knees to expose them to the cold too often..
Just spotted Marky Mark's post, they are the little beauties I don when I feel the cold is too much for my wee skinny matchsticks...
