Results up by 8pm - that's top class. Wish I could say the same about my race. I found it way harder than Kilruddery - very few chances to rest. I just ran out of energy and got slower and slower. My secret training strategy of "install orange grips" didn't seem to work at all. In fact one of them fell off on lap 2 adding to the hillarity. Roll on round 3!

morgan it was so worth it, at least you looked "pimp" as you went by.
oh and i got a picture of the offending grip after the race!

Class day - well worth the spin up. Cheers to Barry for bottle duties, that right arm of yours must be really sore! Or did you alternate?
Conor, I'll get ya in Djouce!

Yeah thanks barry for doing the bottles and who ever went and got my bottle I dropped... Was an ace day, filled my bottles with high5 and pockets with power gels and managed to keep a bit better pace.
Managed to keep ahead of a few more of the masters and in some stupid way was annoyed I did not get to do a fith lap. The best part of all as well was the fact I did not come last.... Time to get some proper tranining miles under my belt and see if I can knock 4 minuites a lap of my time to get mid field in the experts.

Richie, at the mo I dont have the energy to wind you up. Im wrecked, a bit stiff, and surprised I came 15th. Well done to all who raced, especially Fergal....4th!!! And Oisin too!!
Ah.... What the hell..... BRING IT ON RICHIE!!!!!!!

wow - I really, really enjoyed that - some of the best sections of singletrack I've ever raced, unlike last race, I felt I gave that everything I had, I'm not sure if it obvious from the results but I beat Morgan by the way :-)
there's still a big grin on my face, a big grin....
A serious amount of work done on that course, and apparently there was evven more s'track that was unusable due to the conditions!
Brilliant result for Mel - her first race of the year resulting in 1st place - delighted, you can't do better than that - great race Mel!
The other half of MADs most awesome couple - the commander of the Silver Bullet, the gram-reducer himself - Mr. Ryan Sherlock had an excellent race also finishing strong in 6th place out of a pack of 16 snarling savages of Elites.
I'm eating a white chocolate easter bunny while I'm typing this by the way, and drinking a bottle of Peroni Nastro Azzuro - one of Italy's finest beers,
I had a really tasty Thai green curry with noodles before all that, XC racing racing gives me carte blanche to eat whatever I like after a really tough race -- just thought you should know....
anyway, Oisin Boydell had another great race finishing 3rd in a really tough race for him and retaining the overall leaders position - deadly Oisin - well done, your big grin said it all
ooohh my legs are stinging ......

Peroni Nastro Azzuro... Bah a good pint of Kentish Spitfire Ale is what you need after a hard days work.

what a race!
I didn't think there could be a much tougher course than Kilruddery, but was proved wrong. Very little chance to rest at any stage during the lap.
Was in absolute agony on my second lab and almost considered quitting, but glad I didn't. Thanks for the encouragement/bottles Sean/Shane/Barry, it makes all the difference when your legs are crying out for rest. Perversely I quite enjoyed my final lap.
Excellent showing by MAD this weekend. I think we must have had the largest single presence there and some great results too.
A few more results like that Fergal and it's elites for you..

fairplay for sticking with it Cormac, so tough to combat the
"drop-out demons" .... I was making some scary grunting sounds on the last lap - scared the demons off.....
I have no fancy ideas about myself - 10 mins between me and a Masters podium today - wow - 10 minutes - how do you make up that amount of time???......hmmm...tough one

savages!!!
sounds good lads!
I was raging I missed it, but now that I hear it was tougher than kilrudery, hmmmmmmm maybe my retirement came at just the right time, I'll just sit back and wait for a doddle of a course and annonce a comeback HAH!! :)
well done lads!!!
some great results
It was a very tough race with no letup at all in the course. So much single track - it was amazing and I can't believe how clean me and the bike were after the race. I was expecting a mudfest.
It was amazing the number of MAD folk I seen on the trails - it was great to see so many in Masters and Experts and thanks for the encouragement as I passed by. Thanks too to Sean, Barry and Shane for sorting out the feed/tech zone - I really appreciate it. I was so annoyed that I kept dabbing over those rocks where you guys were cheering me on - the only place on the whole course...
My race was a bit of a funny one - I rode technically reasonably well but I didn't have any power in my legs. I felt like I was soft pedaling the whole way around. Beating all the Belgians was funny anyway ;)
I wrote so more about the race from my point of view here: http://ryansherlock.blogspot.com/
Fergal - feel free to use what you want.

Yeah that was really tough. Everyone was saying that they had no power in their legs - I felt the same. I think it was because there was no let up at all. Even the flat-ish fireroad sections at the top of the hill were a battle because of the wind.

Morgan was actually looking for something like that
hey Morgan,
Rory Walsh has a very old MAD skin suit - he's looking for a lot of money for it though.....
by the way, he told us that Sunday was MADs 20th anniversary! - wow !
According to my source (PP,) as MAD was OFFICIALLY formed/registered first in 1989, our 20th birthday is next year. That gives us time to plan a celebration. And maybe release a special edition pink and black 20th anniversary club kit...

ah, very good, we'll look forward to that so
forgot to say thanks very much to Sean for my bottles and the rest of the pit-crew and Sports heads for all the shouts of encouragement - great stuff, really keeps you pushing when you think you can't go on!!

More photos up on the IMBRC site. I particularly like this one http://imbrc.com/index.php?option=com_gallery2&Itemid=26&g2_itemId=9250 . Captured that moment just before Fergal disembowels what looks like a WORC rider with his front wheel. It's that kinda 'take no prisoners' attitude that gets you to 4th place in masters! Loads of great pics from the entry to the first section of single track. Surprised there's none of me - I spent most of my time on my ass on that corner...

LOL! - I explicitly remember telling the photographer to delete those photos!
I tought they are not alowed by UCI those asymetric handlebars, not for 2008 ;) http://picasaweb.google.com/Arek.Gogojewicz/KCapitalCup2/photo#5182155976929316850

ah Arek you crack me up, you would think seeing as he went to the bother to colour co-ordinate that he'd actually use the grips eh?
Good man Richie - had not seen that, though I definitely remember the event - that was Gordon Lucas - "god I'm sorry lads, sorry sorry..." he finished 2nd all the same - I should have run him over....
we had piled-up behind him - there was a lot of pressure going into that turn, the line between the upright half-buried rock and the tree was a tough one but if you got your front wheel thru without snagging your bars on the tree you were laughing
you look "in the zone" here Richie - no more messin' around eh?

Heh, that was probably seconds before I went on my ass after hitting another off camber slippy root for the 100th time.
Richie

Speaking of the line through there, I watched one of the Belgian lads roll straight over the half-buried rock on the left.... tried the same thing on my next lap - same result though...

Just looked at the results again on K Cap web site, and it seems that the results have been changed. I was 15th now I'm 17th! Morgan was 11th and now 14th. Anybody know why this might have happened?
