they are lots of high mileage spins around.

A lot of them involve linking up different mtb hot spots with the wicklow way.

what places do you normally ride?

just wondering what places you're familiar with, if you're just starting out by far the best way to see new trails is to join an organised spin though.

Aside from the wicklow way and Ballinstoe trails none of the routes are marked out unfortunately.

Go on Graham, post up a couple of Garmin maps. I can sense your desire from here!

Thanks diamondG

I would be familiar with the mountains in or around ticknock, but the routes i take consist of a number of loops and the terrain is very easy.

Can you recommend a beginner group that go out at the weekend? I would consider myself reasonably fit already as i come from a road racing background, however its fair to say that i dont have a clue about the technical side of mountain biking.

Cheers.

ticnock is great, and there are tonnes of trails there, possibly ones you haven't come across, its xc heaven if you know where to look.

you probably already know, but round three of the Kcapital cup is on this Sunday.

The race is Djouce woods, which has top class trails, most built by national champion Robin Seymor.

Djouce woods in near enough to the sugar loaf so its easy to get to (by car), you should check out the race on sunday, it'd be a good way to see where the trails are.

The race site is:

here's a link to directions to Djouce (and other mtb hotspots)

There are regularly beginner spins with the club, there was one last Sunday in Ballinastoe, you should keep an eye on the forum for them, when you see one come up just shout.

It is a funny time at the moment with the races on, there's not quite as many spins as usual (everyone is training, or more than likely at home asking a magic eight ball what tyres to run for Djouce)

If you've been road racing, you're probably savage fast on the climbs, so stay away from any spins I'm on, I don't need someone else reminding me how unfit I am ;)
