What/where the heck is the 'deadly rock of gloom'? And how deadly and/or gloomy is it?

yeah..
I just got my new tyres, when I was choosing them I didn't have deadly or gloomy rocks in mind!
where is this monstrosity?

'gloom' !!
how you have a feauture called 'the rock of gloom'!!??
gloom = boredom and heavy grey skies, Monday mornings, a holiday in Tramore....
"The Depraved Drop of Disaster!!"
...now that's a feature I would travel to ride!!!
...rock of gloom..god I'm depressed now.....I'm not bothering to get out of bed on Sunday....

should we have a campaign for happier obstacles in races?

I think I know where you're coming from Paddy... perhaps instead of 'deadly rock of gloom' we have 'The fairy dust rock garden'?
Actually Rock is a strong word, maybe 'The fairy dust pebble garden'...

or even just the 'deadly rock of ... emmm ... deadliness!'
For the race we did at slade, I always liked the name 'The Happy Valley' rather than calling it the 'butt clenching descent of death' ... though maybe that description only applied to my own feelings while riding it!

Masters/Experts: 3 x 8km laps - no Bench Cut, but the new stuff will make up for that - great - can't wait
Sports will be a shorter loop as far as I know - will still be a quality race regardless of category
I highly encourage all MAD members to give this race a go - just get on your bike and zip around and enjoy it don't worry about anyone else, - and look cool for the cameras -it will be one to remember

Great, positvely terrified now!
Are nobbly tyres not recommended for this then? Wasn't going to change them.
Any thoughts on how long the sports lap will take? (assumin good clibing ability and pathetic descending skill!) ;)

Sports will probably be 2 x 5 or 6km laps
- it doesn't matter how long it takes you as long as you give it your best shot
remember Jackie there's a Sports Ladies category - if you've been out a bit on the bike then you'll have no problem whatsoever doing this race

Fergal, dont lie the Ladies sport is savage this year. Jackie watch out for Ash and her evil plan for victory.
Evil plan for victory my eye, no doubt to make sports "easier" they've taken out any nice and tricky downhill bits that I like and replaced them uphill fireroad so all the roadies and triathletes can whiz past me while I gasp up the hill....it'll be me that'll have to watch out for Jackie I think :o)

Where's the aggression in that, elbow's on the start line, she comes near you force them into the nearest tree... I know you can win Ash, it does not require hard work and training, as they say cheats always win :->
Super, now you're accusing me of being a cheat as well, where's the love :o( ...I'd rather be come last or be a DNF than cheat.

ah ash .. you'll never win with an attitude like that.
You should take some inspiration from those Herbie films. Cycle off out in front and then stop and change an arrow sign to point the wrong direction, then hide behind a tree laughing evily while everyone else cycles off the wrong way. Then just change the sign back, jump on the bike and win!
Hee hee, That's brilliant, I'd even beat all the mens sports category too.....only problem is getting to the front in the first place :o)...I'll have to go watch some Herie films and take notes. I missed out as a child, maybe that's why I lack a sneaky evil side??

So thats what happened for the Marathon Champs in Carlingford? Too many Herbie fans messing with the signage.

check out the old Dastardly and Muttley cartoons (The Whacky Races or whatever they were called) for further nefarious, yet ultimately unsuccessful schemes!
