Lads am I right in saying that you can't have normal tops and shorts for the racing? What do ya wear? Spandex all spandex???? And what about this no peaks on helmets?
Sorry, have to ask.

just wear whatever you feel comfortable in, whether that be lycra, baggies, or even a one piece skinsuit...
as for peaks on helmets, do they even have a purpose in irish conditions? its not like we get sun at an angle that necessitates a peak, its all about the look really.
just because you look like a racer doesn't mean you will be savage, take fergal for example, batin' around the races in a wifebeater style jersey and baggies one day, wearing over soes the next!! :P

you're dead right Barry, I'm a walking contradiction...it was weather for the wifebeater tonight alright, now just need to make a wife out of my girlfriend and ...... actually no, she'd clatter me easy

you may or may not be taking the mickey, anyway, you'll see most racers in Lycra/Spandex (whatever) shorts:
this has a functional reason in that there's less risk of the shorts catching on the saddle, also some people like the aesthetic, some people think they have great looking arses... personally, it's too roadie for me, but I'm the minority
jersey - well, cotton isn't good as it retains sweat and gets cold and heavy, I prefer a tight race top as the sweat evaporates better, and you can regulate your temperature much better if you have a zip or two to pull down
are you thinking of racing on Sunday?
fair play if you are

Defo head out and do sports on Sunday Mick, the Specialized is built for Djouce type trails! And it'll be great craic!

I used to wear baggies all the time but find they kept catching on my seat when I leaned back so just use lycra shorts for racing and baggies for cruising. The GBR red, white and blue skin suits were certainly interesting....
Did Morgan ever manage to get an order of MAD skin suits... Oh and defo come racing on sunday Djouce looks set to be a savage course.

Cheers for the advice Fergal. No I'm not taking the mick just thought I read it somewhere on the fourm before. Ya looking forward to testing myself and the specialized in competition Richie.Have another local fella coming up with me and looking forward more to see how he gets on as he would be a lot fitter than myself.
Anyway, again cheers for clearing it up for me (as stupid as it may have sounded). See ye on Sunday and good luck to ye.

ah yeah .. i thnk that was martins training spin announcement that had you confused .. all that talk of lycra and no helmet peaks etc.
I guess if you knew martin you'd have known he was only taking the piss
Whatever about the pros and cons of lycra I've always found the helmet peak helps reduce the impact speed of my face and ground when I go over the bars. Seriously.
