Two weeks ago, I was out with a mate in Djouce and he had a pretty horrific accident. See here for details (http://www.epicmtb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7309). He's ok now, but will be recovering for a while.

Anyway I knew nothing about first aid so I decided to do a First Aid course. Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue are running a REC II level course on the 6/7 June in Laragh and I have signed up for it along with a few others. 24 places available in all, we should fill it with mountain bikers!

Details here (http://www.dwmrt.ie/?p=127).

After our experience, I feel everyone should do some sort of first aid course.

I emailed them enquiring about this last week, no response as yet.
After this weekends bloodletting I reckon its a must.

same spot as andy had his spill 1.5years ago! ribs broken, spleen and liver pierced and what not... dangerous spot alright.. but that's the nature of the sport!

I rang a mobile number for them this morning and got talking to Paul Gilbert, who told me something will be going out to people hopefully this evening.

It'll be held in the Brockagh Community Centre, Laragh.

All in hand there Brian,

Folks, just a quick correction - The course will take place in the Old Schoolhouse in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow. Anyone who has sent in their details via email should have a reply shortly from the organiser - We're good at rescuing people, but I guess our IT skills could do with a bit of a spit and polish ;-)

There are still places available, so if you're interested please email fundraising@dwmrt.ie

Thanks,

Gil

ah dave .. you're outdoorsy but are you really sure he'll fall for the woman thing?

 I was implying that I wasn't paying attention but had felt a disturbance in the force at the mere mention of 'outdoorsy women!' which I had filtered into 'FIT WOMEN! Mmmmm niccccccccccceee!'...

I can see your way of reading it but never really thought of it like that at the time, and now it seems so obvious. Good call :)
I think I really need to spend some quality time in the pub making smart-arsed comments and finding double-meening in everything... This time last year I wouldn't have got caught that easy... :(

I'd like to apologise in advance for any injury aquired as a result of disturbing mental images caused by any previous posts.

Is there anybody going on this course? If so, are any of you still waiting on some sort of confirmation???

After several attempts and then a change of email address I at last got a reply from DWMRT, that said:
Thanks Dave,

Lisa will contact you later with everything you need to enrol.

Costs will be €150 for the two days and it'll be in the schoolhouse in Roundwood, as you know.

I'd guess they'll run from 9am through 6pm or thereabouts, but wait for Lisas email for confirmation.

Thanks,

Gil

After no reply came I called his mobile on Wednesday to make sure. I got through to him and he said he thought there was a place for me and he'd get Lisa to get back to me... Friday lunchtime came with still nothing, so I rang and left a voicemail message... still no reply... WTF!

I'm unemployed and I gave up the chance to earn some money on Sat to do this!!!
Should I just turn up tomorrow morning or what.

Just talked to Lisa - she sent out emails to everyone including one Dave S who might be yourself. She also mentioned calling the same Dave S and leaving a message and she's going to call him again now. Either way there's spaces still available as please do turn up.

There's a couple of people who never confirmed with Lisa - I gather she has kept space for those people so hopefully they'll turn up too. Its possible that Lisa's email has ended up in your spam filter as it is her own personal one and not a DWMRT one.

Hope this clears things up and apologies for any last minute confusion.

Crisis over, Lisa called me just before you put up that message.

Checked email every day (usually several times) and none from her so I'll have to check what sort of spam-filters are on the account... As for the phone, it showed no missed calls or voicemails... so, anyones guess?!?

Anyhoo, all sorted now :)

DaveS, myself, Sean (Happy Fairy) from EPIC and 4 hill walkers/climbers did the course over the weekend.

8:30 to 6 each day, covering an immense amount of material from assessing casualties to dressing wounds, splinting fractures, spinal injuries, heart attacks, head injuries and much more.

There was a good balance of lectures, practical outdoor work and tea and biscuits. The people from the DWMRT were great. Very, very dedicated and all voluntary, so hats off to them!

They'll be running another one of these sometime in November, so go and do it and hope you never have to use what you learn.

Its also a very good fundraiser for them, so you are also helping out in that regard.
