View Full Version : Advice on New Zealand
Well looks like I'm off to New Zealand in October, either for the year or for good, not sure yet.
Anywho, I know a few people in the club have been, so I'm just wondering where is the best for getting work, cheap living and most importantly, good mountain biking.
Not bringing bike with me but (I think) but may buy something over there, so look out for a big sale of my bike gear.

Oh, and if anyone would like to buy a 04 focus hatch, low mileage, let me know.

hey liam .. sorry no time to type much now .. will send you a mail about it sometime .. ya lucky fecker.
Have a load of books i can give you about the place and the mtb tracks etc
can't tell you too much about the MTB side of things
my personal impression of the bigger cities
Auckland - big sprawling place, bit soulless
Christchurch - boring, very traditional place
Wellington - cool place, lovely people, cafe culture. met some runners here , brought me to lovely hills 30 mins from city and i presume theres decent biking on the forest trails.
Dunedin - beautiful big town, full of students tho, not much going on economically
There's skiing country near rotorua, so i guess you could find decent DH and maybe a tourist job, would be a bit quiet for me.
anyway for me it would be wellington by a country mile.
edit: i'd think about bringing your own bike if i were you, outdoor equipment is significantly more expensive and has less range in the shops, anywhere in the southern hemisphere.
Cheers lads, I'l look into bringing the bike over but I'm sure it'll be very expensive, might just buy cheap hartail over there.
Yeah, I was thinking Wellington might be the best place to settle allright.
I'll call up for those books sometime Paddy, thanks.
