Hello MAD,

I used to be a religious MAD member but I have been off the bike for a few years now. I'm sure Morgan and Noel will remember me dislocating my shoulder on that run down from the Hell-Fire club.

Anyway, I need a new set of cranks and a new bottom bracket for my Giant AC-Team. I'm looking for something strong but not too heavy as the bike already weighs a good bit. I checked out chainreactioncycles but since i've been out of the game for so long I don't know whats hot and whats not anymore. Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Louis

hey Louis, long time no see! You finished college these days?

What sort of setup are you looking for? Just a single front ring, double with bashguard or a triple?

Don't know too much about the DH sort of stuff but i doubt you'd go wrong with Shimano Saint stuff, which also comes in all 3 options above.

You might need a special tool to fit it, but just email chainreaction and they should be able to sort that out as well. (or if its the same as the tool for XT cranks i can loan it to you).

No, i'm still floating around UCD. Haha.

I've been running a single front ring with a chain guide for a while now but i think i'll switch back to three rings. I wouldn't go as far as saying i'm a downhiller now but the bike is a bit of a cross breed.

Thanks a mill for that, i appreciate your help... I'll get on to them

Pretty good value, pretty stiff and reasonably light - gotta be the 2008 XT crankset... They are a little wider (Q factor) then the XTR ones but for about 100e they are great value.

I have them on my training bike and they have been working really well.

louis if you're not gonna be doing big jumps and DH stuff on it then the XT ones are great. If you are, then i have no idea if they'd stand up to the abuse.
