Hey all.
I recently bought a Trek 3900 2nd hand off somebody.
Having owned one of these before and using it as a baseline into spins on dirt tracks I need the shocks to function.
It appears the shocks have extended fully and wont move at all Any tips on how to free it?
I suspect it may have seized from sitting up for a while. At least i'm hoping it's something minor as the rest of the bike seems mint.

Thanks as always for your tips and advice! I dont want to send it to a shop if possible but I don't think the shocks are adjustable.

What type of fork is it? I had a quick look for the spec and came up with the ones below but if its secondhand it could have something different again...

SR Suntour XCT V2 w/preload, 80mm
Front Suspension - InSync Grind 1 w/preload, 70mm

Well lads. I had a look at the links. I'm stumped!
I noticed on the link you can disassemble and temporarily recondition them?

I can see this becoming an expensive part to maintain. I heard rock shox are good but I'm not sure which would fit. They're the sr suntour forks

these here (http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com/SID=si508340f7d4543e4b8a34815e5b04e2/index.php?screen=sh.detail&tnid=1641) are similar though not an exact match.

Thanks again to all who replied. Is it safe to ride it all all?

Would you not just go into a bike shop?...There are a few decent ones around, seems like a lot of questions for just one fork from some guy we don't even know.

congo, before I'd replace them or shop them in, I'd take it out in front of your house and ride the around the road hard

off and up curbs with as much weight on the front, just trying to knock them into shape/movement again

hardly the most technical way to deal with them, but if the problem arose while they were sitting up maybe they just need a bit of use..

also, are you sure the forks don't have lockout, sometimes turning the dial on top of the fork leg locks them out, maybe it was turned and forgotten..

failing all that, as the Tom says, shop them in

Well I took a more in depth thought on dismantling them (i slept on the idea) and figured probably best to shop them in rather than try myself... no need for me to make a balls of them.

I'm away at the moment for the week but when I return, I will give this a go and see if it loosens out

According to the specs from what I remember there is no lockout but I stand to be corrected there. I know there is an adjustment on it for the pre-load.

Thanks again to all who replied. I appreciate your efforts. :)
