We’re going to start our latest series of MTB beginners rides this weekend. Our first ride will be around Massey's Wood – meeting at The Merry Ploughboy car park (http://www.mpbpub.com/location.html) at 9:40am for a 10am start.
These spins are suitable for everyone – although a basic level of bike-fitness will really help. See the information on our Beginners Page (http://www.madmtb.com/forums/../../mountaincode/how-to-start/#wear) for details on what to wear and bring. Helmets are compulsory for all riders – no exceptions under any circumstances.
Each week new riders will be guided around a different trail and shown how to deal with the obstacles they encounter. Experienced MAD riders provide advice on bike-setup and safety, necessary equipment and riding skills.
The rides are open to riders over 16 years of age. Riders under 18 must present a parental consent form (http://www.madmtb.com/forums/../../docs/2007_Underage_Rider_Consent.doc) to the club committee (committee@madmtb.com?subject=Beginners Rides). Riders under 16 may attend on the condition that a parent also takes part and stays with the group at all times – please discuss this with the committee beforehand.
Saturday September 12th – Masseys
Sunday September 20th – Leadmines
Sunday October 4th – Ballinastoe

no obligation to join at all until after you have come out on a few of the sessions - then you can decide - try before you buy....

Well that was a deadly day, the group I was cycling with set a great pace for the whole day and we got a load of trails done. Was nice to be back in Masseys and Hellfire after a year or so and even better because the sun was out. No major spills to report, looking forward to the next one, lets hope the weather is as good.
Went and did river run and cruagh with two lads (Peter? and ???) which was a bit wet but nice to ride, the two that joined me will certainly be savages on the mountain bike soon enough I would say.

Hello all.
Me and the other half would like to take part in one or two (probably the last two) beginners days.
Is it ok to attend one or two of the events or would we need to wait until the next course and attend from beginning? unfortunately we saw that this course was being run too late to join in from the start and are away until the last days.
Many thanks.

You can come on one or two, that's fine, its not exactly a structured course, each spin is just an introduction to the excellent trails and whatever advice is asked of our experienced club members.

Me and the missus will be there too. Been swearing to get to one of these for ages.
See you there, looking forward to it.
Good occasion to test a new bike so if anyone has a spare place in a car I'm up for the spin.
PS. Or is it cyclable from dublin 8 ?

That was my first time out and couldnt have asked for better conditions. Had a ball of a time.Ive got some nice scrapes and bruises, even managed to go straight over the bars on a down section when I pulled the front brake instead of the rear, but I'm ok, I landed on my head. Many thanks to our MAD guides for their time and attention. Looking foward to going on another.
Your more than welcome lads, just make sure you come out again... It was a great day, the group Graham and I took were really pushing themselves, I was very impressed by the all of the guys in the group, and we had some good old banter as well..
....class trails out there, I had forgotten some of them existed...

That was excellent - really enjoyed myself, even managed equal my record for how far I could cycle up Katty Gollagher. One day I'll find the extra lung to get me over that 2nd hump of rocks after the hairpin.

Well this afternoon I set off from Palmers on my own to re-ride the tracks we did on Sunday.Weather was warm and dry.I did 11.7 miles in total, and I suffered loads!!!Think it was because I was on my own,so I didnt do as many rest stops as I done with the group on Sunday, but I got back to Palmers alot more tired!!!Still enjoyed my solo spin, plus I know it will get me fitter!!Roll on Thursday,Ballinastoe it will be,see how much I suffer around there!!Regards,Micky

I was thinking of doing the same tomorrow, send me a text if you're up for company (handy if you're trying to build up speed on the trails - someone will call the ambulance if necessary :p ). I've sent you a PM.
P.S. Won't have access to tinternet from about 5.30 til 12.15 tonight...

Howdy?
Which car park is the meet point for this Sunday's beginner spin at Ballinastoe?
R
Fergal
01-10-2009, 11:57 AM
there's only 1 car park that I know of - at the trail head
Its possible to get into Ballinastoe from the top end, there is a carpark up there but you would be going the completely wrong way around.

Very nice day, great weather, dry trails (I couldn't recognise some of the places - they looked completely different without any mud) and many new people - hope to see you again!
Yes, good day out, Ballinastoe is always fun.
