Our first MTB beginners course (http://www.madmtb.com/mountaincode/mtb-beginners-course/) of 2008 begins on May 10th. This will be an easy introduction to mountainbiking for first-timers or a chance for people to return to the sport. Please ensure your bike is in good working order and don't forget your helmet. Check out our Beginners Page (http://www.madmtb.com/mountaincode/how-to-start/) for more details on what to wear and bring.

If you have any questions, or if you just want to tell us you're coming along, drop an email to the committee (committee@madmtb.com?subject=I'm coming on the beginners course so I am). The course is open to riders over 16 years of age. Riders under 18 must present a parental consent form (http://www.madmtb.com/docs/2007_Underage_Rider_Consent.doc) to the club committee. Riders under 16 may attend on the condition that a parent also takes part and stays with the group at all times - please discuss this with the committee beforehand.

The first day will be around the Hellfire Club and Masseys Wood on Saturday May 10th. Meet at the Merry Ploughboy Pub (http://www.mpbpub.com/location.html) at 9.45am, departure at 10am. We'll aim to finish about 1pm or so.

I swear I had a bike just like that one!

I'm going to drag a few mates along on at least one of those dates.

PS: Maybe we should have a social night out for the club around that time to mingle with the newbies and keeps people interested. Just a suggestion but I'm sure Paddy will be up for it. :-)

Ello ! Planning to head along to this with two friends. Hopefully my mountain bike is fixed up before Saturday or I'll be attending with a battered, suspensionless single speed.

Anyway, Is it ok to drive to the pub and park the car there, or do people drive up to hellfire and park there?

Should anything be brought along for the guides, jaffa cakes etc?!

You're better off parking at the pub these days - the Hellfire car park is still closed AFAIK as there have been numerous break-ins.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the biscuits.

I want to go this saturday but I have a few questions. What time would it be finished? Would a hardtail be ok to use? Is there any other spot or date in dublin for beginners and what will we be shown exactly and what will we be doing there?

A hardtail is perfect, it's xc not downhill. As for what you'll be shown i don't know exactly but i'll guess some basic bike maintainance, some riding skills and fergal might show how to do a rolling endo. Your questions re time and places are answered in the original post.

well no one died today so that was good, pity about the weather though, pouring rain earlier but thankfully it stopped before the start.

Hope everyone enjoyed it and ye'll be back out next weekend!
