hey,

i have the flat alloy versions of those bars ( http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=158&idproduct=14633 ) on my race bike and i can't fault them at all. they are light and i think they are savage. they look great aswell.

140g ain't all that light for a flat bar...just sayin'

Eoghan - handlebars should be a size based on what fits you best - often not the same size as was originally spec'ed on the bike....The Canyon 6.0 has an "Iridium Ultralight" bar, which I can't find anything on the net about...so likely a Canyon own brand thingy...so can't really help with sizing.

I have the flat carbon version of these and cannot fault them. Vibration is not as noticeable as with an alloy bar. Not much to say about handlebars really, just so long as they don't break!

I think (and I might be wrong) your stem is for 25.4 diameter bars, and the Ritchey WCS Rizer Carbon is an oversized 31.8, so you'd have to go and buy a new stem too.

In terms of sizing, it can get a little complicated... you've got back sweep and rise and width, and depending on your arm length, shoulder width, upper torso length and what you want to use the bike primarily for will dictate what the geometry of the bar you want!

But few people worry that much about the setup so basically just go with what's comfortable. On the next spin try out a few bikes and see what bar setup you like the most.

From a width point of view all bars come with markers on the bar ends to allow you to cut them down to size if they are too wide. I lopped off a couple of inches off my bar over the weekend and it feels like a different bike now (in a good way!)

Thanks for the feeback fellas.they are 25.4 so that rules out the Rizers. getting a new stem will cost too much. Do you really notice the difference with carbon handlebars though even with front suspension?

i would also be interested to what you think is better between riser and flat bar. i know risers are better on the flat and flat bars are better on climbs and technical side but which do you prefer?

Why not ask Julian which are best?

Will Julian be at the beginners ride on Saturday?

Neither is best, its whatever gives you the most comfortable position on the bike. Risers just give more options for getting the best position along with stem length, height on the steerer tube etc.

As for width, i think a good rule of thumb is that your bars should be roughly as wide as your shoulders as that gives a fairly comfortable and stable position.

I had flat bars which were too narrow at one stage and struggled badly to keep going in a straight line, switched to wider riser bars and i find infinitely better, though i reckon its more the width of the bars than anything. Sean could probably use those flat bars no bother as he doesn't really have shoulders!

Yep... I tried flat bars, risers with bar ends and just risers with varying widths and was just not comfortable on the bike. Last night I went back to just risers with the width I had when I first got the bike and it felt like magic again. In the future all I am going to do is move to a carbon riser instead of alloy.
