There was some talk of a long savage spin to Powerscourt, but what are people thinking? Meet at Taylors 10am, and take it from there or what??

If Shane can put my new crank set on I'll come along, not going to be too savage is it?

Liam

Sorry, just reading it properly now, obviously savage which rules me out.

If you can manage up to 5hrs in the saddle at a regular enough pace Liam, you should be ok. There are drop out points along the way anyway. Its about 30kms off road to Powerscourt, then 20 back on the road.

Slight change to the spin. Starting at Crone car park at 10am. Plan is to do Crone to Powerscourt to Djouce, and back to Crone. Post here if your coming, or text meor Graham.

Deadly deadly deadly!! Still buzzing and burning, arms are a lovely red colour up to the jersey line. That was a real Sunday classic. Up from Crone, up the waterbars, descending into powerscourt valley/river, up to top of Ack, down Ack and onto B'stoe, around B'stoe and then up to top of B'stoe and onto sleepers, up sleepers and down crazy fast descent on the other side, down ack, all round Djouce, into P'scourt, Ice cream, crisps, role, coke , ice cream and the sight of a browner Cait back on the bike!

We were a bit mobbed by walkers at some stages but covered up the MAD logo and powered through. More spins like this please!!

yeah, great spin today in perfect weather. I'm going to have some interesting tan lines on the back of may hands!

Climbing the boardwalk in the direction we tried today is so much better than the other way.

class spin and what a day for it!

We were out nearly 5 hours.

That route is great, Crone's a good staring point and its great to get such a long spin where all the trails are good, minimal amount of fireroad and virtually no road.

And the powerscourt shop, food never tasted so good!

That was a rush coming down the side of Djouce at full speed and watching the walkers scatter like sheep on the trail ahead! Its very crowded up there on the weekends with this good weather though. Also I couldn't believe the amount of people at Ballinastoe, although they seemed to be mostly hanging around the car park. It was quiet enough on the actual trails.

I have to agree, GREAT spin! I have the interesting tan lines too, but I also have a knee the size of a grapefruit today!(well, almost).

that sounds painful Conor!

Having been there before, the recommendation is normally (assuming nothings out of whack) RICE.

Rest Ice Compression and Elevation.

there's nothing worse than a swollen knee though. Especially in the morning, it feels like the joint won't move at all.

You can get good sock bandage rolls in the pharmacy to compress it and reduce the swelling. And nurofen is a good anti inflammatory too.

Yeah well, I'm now lying on the couch with ice on the offending joint, watching re-runs of Greys Anatomy! I dont know whats worse; the ache in my knee, or the ache in my head watching afternoon telly!! But at least I have difene to take the pains away.

We need to get club sponsorship from Difene, we're going through so much of it at the moment!

difene, the worst pain killer on the market, and i should know having been under the knife several times in the last 2-3 years. i would recommend some very strong post-op pain killers, i think they are called tramadol. oh and morphine is always good, but it is just for the hours immediately after surgery!

oh and spare a thought for those of us chained to our desks during this weather!!

Difene is NOT a painkiller per se - it's an anti-inflammatory. Supposed to attack the source of the pain, not just mask it as painkillers do.

Hence, I've been supplementing it with paracetamol too.

Morphine...hhmmmm. Visions of lying in a rainforest in a Vietnam movie screaming for a medic!!
