the battle of the bottlers:
shane's 'system' from last year v barry's this year.

Maybe if we clone, Fergal, Morgan and Sean together we could create a thing capable of beating Ryan. Any one good at the whole DNA splicing?

morgan, speaking of beating other clubs into a bloody mash, will we have our MAD camp (complete with gazebo and the like) set up this year?
as chief bottle dispenser for team MAD i think it is very important that we have a solid base camp from which to launch the assault.
Dear Chiqqueer,
You seem confused. Although the page title reads as 'Mad Forum', it is not in fact what you were looking for. Google can throw up some off-the-wall results eh?
You may find what you are looking for here: http://www.dublinsamaritans.ie/ or here: http://www.sjog.ie/sjog/services/services_mental_main.html
get well soon

Thanks for the vote of confidence there Richie. We'll see how things go. There defintely wont be any wiping the floor though!

Haven't you heard? I've become a roadie. I never really liked getting dirty anyway. Only four months to the Wicklow 200. Awesome!

Richie, you'd have seen us today if you were in Djouce wood, we were on the epic nps circuit, a really good loop
and now the reason I'm being nice to you, you'll see us out more if we can do the epic league, ah go on, you're not that bad
Fergal

Hey Morgan!
You aren't featured as a "racer to watch" on the K-Cap website!!
What the hell man?
Go have words with them - and bring your dogs to intimidate them.
http://www.kcapitalcup.com/
They had me lined-up as a feature racer, but they couldn't find a camera with a shutter speed fast enough to capture my awesome speed, thus no photo, no feature, how cruel.....
Tom was also earmarked for stardom but when he turned-up grinning in the MAD thong he won, they fled...
Richie
19-02-2008, 09:12 PM
So who else is in sports - apart from me?
jonnieh
19-02-2008, 09:23 PM
most likely i'll do sports for this one as i'll be drinking the night before.
any excuse...
paddyobrien
19-02-2008, 09:33 PM
me for the first one at least .. highly unfit these days so i'll struggle to race for an hour, never mind the 2 hours plus the masters race would take me
I'll do sports for the first race and see how it goes
Conor
19-02-2008, 09:34 PM
I'm doing sports for this, I'll wait and see about the NPS.
Cormac
19-02-2008, 10:03 PM
Sports initially.
The competition is hotting up...
Maybe we should agree on some team tatics to disrupt riders from other clubs.
Morgan
19-02-2008, 10:03 PM
You'll notice Robin isn't mentioned either. We decided it would be nice to give some of the up and coming riders a chance...

you know you all want to give masters a go, go onnnnnnnnnnnnn!
I recon we train and try it.
The jump from sports to masters is always going to be huge, no amount of training will ever make the jump a comfortable one.
And if we do it now, we'll be grand for the nps'.
Shane Lavelle's spin Thursday, he's doing 3 laps of Leadmines.
Then I'm thinking of doing laps of somewhere on Sunday for training.
Open to suggestions, but at the moment I'm thinking of Kindlestown. A warm up in Glen of the Downs and then laps of Kindlestown (6 laps for masters?)
worst case, train for masters and then you can do sports at the last minute if you want to.
Cormac
19-02-2008, 10:12 PM
Yes, but we all have to make the jump together!
Personally I will see how I feel after the first few races. I found Kilruddery very very tiring last year, much more so that the other races. Maybe because it was the first race in the season or because of the muddy conditions.
Cormac
19-02-2008, 10:12 PM
Glad to see you are being so generous Morgan.
paddyobrien
20-02-2008, 08:45 AM
To be honest graham i was struggling with 3 short laps in the pheonix park the other night! It'll take another few weeks of hard training to get me anywhere near masters level.
(Note that i'm very unlikely to do a few weeks of hard training at the moment)
Fergal
20-02-2008, 08:56 AM
"then laps of Kindlestown (6 laps for masters?)"
more like 10 laps I'd say Graham as the K'town loop is pretty short
Kindlestown is only around 2km long, seems longer though. We could do a few longer loops taking in GOTD and back - 10 laps of Kindlestown would be painful
diamondG
20-02-2008, 11:34 AM
10 laps, didn't want to hear that :)
yeah, it makes sense though.
We did the Djouce nps last weekend, its an 8km lap, and it was 3 laps in the race (because of the mud). Even with just 3 laps its still a 24km race, so 10 laps of Ktown would only bring you up to near that distance.
I'd still like to try it sometime, it is a very enjoyable circuit. No huge climbs but a good fast loop.
I was trying to think of more places for laps, it sounds like there are a lot of walkers up 3rock on the weekend, so I was trying to avoid it, but maybe all the trails are dedicated mtb trails so it might be ok.
I was thinking of laps of the sugar loaf, sounds nuts but there is a loop going anticlockwise around the mountain, its basically 1 huge climb and 1 huge decent. It might be a bit boring though, and maybe its full of walkers on the weekends. I might try it in a week or two though.
anyone any other ideas for loops?
Maybe 3rock is best.
Fergal
20-02-2008, 11:53 AM
you can pretty much avoid all walkers on that 3rock loop we did a while back Graham, and I know an extension of it that definitely avoids then, you basically continue on the sandy/stoney path all the way to the end of the forest (in Sugar Loaf direction) instead of turning down left to Satellite Run.
You end up on a long fireroad, after the barrier you can take a left which will bring you up a narrower fireroad t oSatellite Run so you can get it in as well, then it's rock-n-roll, old CC, Crossmax, across the front of the hill etc...
or the long tough climb up the fireroad to the aerials....lots of options, all difficult but all good...
diamondG
20-02-2008, 01:15 PM
that does sound good, its a pretty savage loop.
A lot more suitable for training than ktown.
It sure isn't 2kms :)
I think I'll try this on Sunday morning. I'm afraid to ask though, how many laps would a masters race held there be?
If you say 10, I quit.. I'm becoming a roadie.
With the boneshaker climb included in the circuit, there's no way it would be more than 3 laps.
(I have a set of Rosary beeds in my hands and I'm praying, for the love of God it can't be more than 3)
Fergal
20-02-2008, 01:26 PM
hmmm good question - well, a lap of a typical XC race is 5-6km, Masters generally do 5 laps, not sure what distance that 3rock loop is but sure you could measure a full loop on your speedo and then repeat it until you get to approx 30km
then say 10 Hail Marys and you'll be sorted
diamondG
20-02-2008, 01:40 PM
sounds good, I'll try it Sunday.
Karl, sounds good bringing Glen of the Downs into the Kindlestown loop, we'd have to watch out for walkers but it'd be good.
I'll try make it Sunday too.
The route I was thinking was a lap of KTown, over to GOTD, the tunnel, switchbacks, car park, then up the long singletrack to the ruin and back. Probably 6-7km? Walkers would be an issue alright, unless it was early...
I would be up for it too... if its early
diamondG
20-02-2008, 04:17 PM
what's early Colm?
I'd be thinking of starting at 10:30 or so
I stand corrected Graham, just back from doing that loop. A lap of Kindlestown is 3k and the loop taking in GOTD is bang on 10k. Bone dry up there too.
Conor
20-02-2008, 07:29 PM
Just an idea, but does anyone want to do Ryans Killmashogue climb/race prep on Sunday? We can do this, then head over to 3 Rock for Grahams loop, and do K-Town on Saturday. Well?
I'd be on for that Conor. What time were you thinking for Saturday?
Richie
20-02-2008, 08:25 PM
I'll be out on Sat, not sure if Sunday is a runner unless its early and quick.
Conor
20-02-2008, 09:13 PM
Whatever time suits for Saturday is fine by me. Sunday will be quick Richie, Ryan is taking us up Kilmashogue.....that is if a few people turn up.
diamondG
20-02-2008, 09:37 PM
Sunday sounds good! You can count me in, then up to do laps until I drop
I was thinking early on Saturday, less traffic on the trails. How does nine sound?

All this talk of training is makin me dizzy. Just wondering is it possible to enter the 2nd k-capital race after not doin the first. There is no way i could survive the first race with my lack of fitness and Amsterdam this wkend. Actually my fitness levels will drop after the trip to the Dam!! The second race is more of a realistic goal, so is it possible?
paddyobrien
21-02-2008, 12:31 PM
Hey Michael,
You'll be fine .. just enter the sports race and give it socks.
Racing is really good for seeing your improvement week to week (or race to race).
Say you enter the first one thinking you're not that fit or whatever, remember that there's lots of fairly unfit people out there. Then say you beat one person by 30 seconds and the next person was 1 minute in front of you. Then your minimum goal for the next time is to beat who you beat the last time and catch that fecker that was in front of you. Except that his goal is to keep you behind him and catch the one in front of him etc etc and so on up the field.
Only 3 people in each race are gonna get a medal/prize, but there's private races/battles going on all throughout the field, no matter where you are. These are what make it fun ... that and going really fast knowing theres an ambulance nearby if necessary! (personally i tend to go faster downhill in a race then on a spin because of this)
WEll you seem fitter than me Michael (not better lookin now!) and I'm doin the first race.
Richie
22-02-2008, 06:22 PM
Well, sat is out the window for me - need to be back earlier than I thought...so I'm gonna try get out for a quick spin around 3 rock tomorrow morning, starting at 9(ish) from Taylors. Drop me a txt if ya want to come along. 086 8201549.
