If I'm buying a seat clamp, what size do I get?

The tompson seatpost is a 31.6

Do I buy a 31.6 seatclamp, or do I have to allow for the tickness of the seat tube on the frame when working out the size?

The clamp size will depend on your frame (the clamp doesn't touch the seatpost). You'll need to measure the outer diameter of the seat-tube. Or maybe the size is written on the existing clamp somewhere (or on your front mech).

i could be wrong but front mech sizes can vary from the seatpost clamp size, depending on how they taper the tubes etc

I'm am impatient fecker, and waiting til I get home would be way too long. I've gone ahead and ordered the 34.8 one.

There isn't a huge range of sizes available, I recon this is the most plausible. I can always change it with crc anyhoot
