Mountain Bike Orienteering Event – Aughavannagh Area – Sat 24th May @ 13.00


What's involved:


* Premarked maps (Scale 1:15,000) will be supplied giving a set number of control points to be visited in a prescribed order.

* Control points will be marked by highly visible orange and white "kites"

* At each control point the competitor will need to punch a control card that is fixed to their bike by cable tie at the start.

* Route choice between controls is up to competitor but must follow any of the marked tracks and paths – Hike a bike or dropping your bike not permitted or likely to be of advantage


Competition Format


* Winner is competitor with quickest time to visit and punch control card at all controls and return to the finish area.

* Missing any one control punch will result in disqualification.

* Long and Short Courses are available. The estimated winning times are 60 -70 mins and 45 -50 mins respectively

* The navigation and terrain will be suitable for anyone with basic mountain bike riding and navigation skills so beginners/those new to the sport welcome!


Start Time


Start times will be staggered - first start is at 13.00 hrs. Last start is at 14.00hrs


Course closes and all controls will be removed at 16.00 hrs

Aughavannagh - South Wicklow - Just South of Drumgoff / Laragh / Rathdrum


Why:

Your chance to beat those faster riders who cannot navigate properly 


After event venue and suggested venue for local carpooling is the Glenmalure Lodge, Drumgoff

Directions:

Take road to Roundwood and Laragh from the N11 at Killmacanogue.

Turn left at Lynams pub and forllow main road towards Rathdrum for approx 1km

Take right turn and follow road up and across hill to Drumgoff crossroads (~14km I think)

Continue straight at crossroads and up and across hill again.

Towards bottom of hill take left turn (Near the old hostel) and then keep right at next Y junction and just after continue straight past Ironbridge – keeping the river on your right hand side.

Follow the road up the hill for about 2 km to parking / start at graveyard on right hand side


Alternative route to Drumgoff:

Follow N11 to rathnew and take road to Rathdrum.

Turn right at crossroads at top of hill in Rathdrum and then first left at market square.

Follow this road to Greenane and keeping on main road to right you should reach Drumgoff with the pub on your right.

From here you need to turn left at the crossroads and go up and across the hill (Slieve Mann).

Towards bottom of hill take left turn (Near the old hostel) and then keep right at next Y junction and just after continue straight past Ironbridge – keeping the river on your right hand side.

Follow the road up the hill for about 2 km to parking / start at graveyard on right hand side

I'll be at this and I can't navigate for ~!£!*$!

Long and Short Courses are available so you can take easier option!

It'll be a laugh folks! Give it a go!

hahahaha [evil laugh] .I was in scouts for 3 years so this is gonna be so easy for me :)
