Isn't the drab putty-like colour a bit too vibrant for your taste?

not sure Markie - depends on where I get it from I guess

Morgan - I'm not sure how something drab can be vibrant but I'll try my best to find out....besides - it's a colour which is at one with nature - thus reducing the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process required to make the frame....yep?

You could always get a blue pig, nothing drab about that colour .. and it has a little blue pig on it .. much nicer than a skull .. your mother in law would approve

Welcome to the hardcore hardtail club! Ask Al in the Bike Rack about the the Cove Stiffee and build kits cause they have some deal with RaceFace on them.

Although I would personally recommend steel - less harsh ride than aluminium but then again there probably isn't much in it. Cotic BFe is pretty much the perfect bike in my opinion though.

We should all go for some savage spin off the top of the Sugarloaf on these bikes sometime soon. You can't have much more fun than that. Actually I have an idea for a savage little loop up there linking up some of the rockiest trails - I'll do a reconnaissance trip and report back!

I like your thinking, this is why you are club champ...oh that and being an utter savage

I was going to try and highlight the incredible joy of riding a Bfe also, but I felt Fergal needs to find his own path. Fergal, if you want to borrow my Bfe over the next few weeks you are more than welcome to it.

Also, I think the steel v aluminum point is even more valid on bikes of this nature...

Would definitely stay in the sub 140 mm bracket, 160 is too much. My Talas has been stuck on 140 since I got it and is more than enough to get loose on the rough stuff.

Oisin-Great idea, would love to try out that trail on the Bfe. This loop you speak of sounds good also.

Probably is, but they like to keep us guessing by not having the 2010 ones availabl until end April.

Still waiting.............

Getting impatient

PS: I think bikerack will match Silverfish price on Stiffee's euro for pound (at least that's what Al said when I inquired about purchasing a Cove Stiffee before Christmas. Thn I changed my mind and decided I'd get a BFe !!!

thanks lads - it's great because there are so many good options - but also more difficult to make a final decision
Gerry Mac was raving about the Stiffee but there's the Cotics and Ragleys that you guys love too..decisions..........

Yeah any of them but a green Ragley I'd say. Some piece of shit really. Think I'll give it to Harvey to eat.

The reasons I went for (or should probably say, am going for) the BFe over the Cove Stiffe are

1) Steel (never had one, so want to see what it's all about)
2) Geometry, BFe is same as Cotic Soul so more "all mountain" friendly, Cove Stiffee is less uphill oriented.
3) Seatpost: Cove is 30.0mm diameter, cotic BFe is 31.6mm, so a lot more options including extendable seatposts (none are available in 30.0mm).
4) The BFe is €200 cheaper than the Cove Stiffee

Plus, Cove Stiffee is soooooooo 2000000000004

Clearly I am a dyed in the wool Cotic man but the blue pig is pretty cheap

The Blue Pig or the Red Pig?

What will it be?

Take the Blue Pig Fergal, the Stiffee is for North Shore drops and road gaps.

doesn't brian have a bfe frame at wicklow cycles?

have you looked at the orange p7/subzero? I presume you don't like the 456, although is a carbon one out soon at about 500 quid.

The daddy is the Evil Sovereign though...

Will it be the first MAD bike with Hammershmidt?

Was chatting to two lads on 3 rock this morning, one was on a "transition" kitted out with a Hammershmidt crank. Had a quick spin on it, really super smooth shifting and looks really neat, not to mention the huge clearance it gives.

But €700?, a bit much for what it is. Plus you need ISCG mounts to fit it and as far as I know of the main large travel hardtails the BFe is the only frame with such mounts.

TomH

Yeah I've ridden one before, remarkably smooth and quick shifting...almost instant.

Sure what's a few hundred euros at this stage.
