The Association of Landscape Contractors of Ireland is organising to get a container load of used bicycles (500 bicycles) to a township in South Africa.
When the bikes arrive in South Africa (at no cost), they will be serviced and repaired and sold or given to local people. It is hoped that the repair and maintenance will create a small enterprise in itself.
The cost of bicycles in South Africa is beyond the means of most people, and this greatly limits these people, who live most of their lives within walking distance of their homes. Bicycles will greatly increase the distances which they can travel at no cost.
If you have a used bicycle which you no longer require, please contact Clontarf Landscapes at 8330090 and they will pick up the bicycle and deliver it to a central depot where the container for South Africa will be filled.
