This post is probably more suited on boards.ie but sure I will give it a go.

Does anyone have a “friend” who declared mounting biking as a pastime on a Life assurance policy and the premium increased?

Thanks!

Jesh, no offence but who would be daft enough to post information like that on a public website and to a stranger. When it comes to policies, honesty is the best policy.

never been asked to specify a pastime, not since leaving cert french ;)
if an insurance company asked me to and I thought they'd penalise, I'd go to a different company

I've updated my life insurance just recently and mountain biking was not mentioned in the specific 'risk' sports. Motorsport and scuba diving tend to be the red flags. But as they say in the fine print - you need to get your own independent expert advice on any financial product!!

I declared it when getting life insurance ( ie wife gets loads of money when i die) i also asked them for income protection due to injury whilst mountain biking at the same time
I was also limping

they didn't consider mountain biking to be high risk enough in increase the premium for life insurance
