Can anyone advise on the best website or tour operator to book a MTB long weekend. Its a present for a someone with good technical ability and v. good fitness. Chamonix or Morzine in France seem to be popular. Can any one advise? Also some offer MB hire. Are they rust buckets or decent bikes? Is it better to bring own bike? Receiver of gift uses a Specialized. Thx.

I've only had one mtb trip out-foreign, but I can totally recommend Freeride Spain in the Sierra Nevada. Incredible trails, plentiful food, great weather. Ryanair flies to Granada now so it would work out pretty economical as well.

dolly, cheap weekend is pop on the stenna and over to Wales! you can be there in 1.40 on the fast boat and at the trails 1 hour from there! cheap as chips if you load the car and stay in a hostel!
Car ferries are gone pretty expensive now, must be price of oil or something?
€300 for car and two people was last quote I got.
Hey Dolly, Resortwise I hear Morzine and Les Gets are considerably better than Chamonix...Ferry is not cheap really...Check the forum on MTBR for further discussions on Chamonix..
I went to Germany (Baden-Baden) a couple of months ago, and hired out a bike for the weekend to do some trips in the Black Forest. Loads of tracks and paths to choose from, cheap flights with ryanair, out on Friday evening and back Sunday evening. I hired a bike from the group on the website below, he has a good selection of hardtails/full suspension in different sizes. It might be worth contacting the guy, Klaus-Peter, to let him know what you are looking for and he can sort you out.

Karlsruhe is probably a livelier town to stay in for a weekend though, Baden-Baden can be fairly quiet.
Anybody interested in organising a weekend away in the next few months ?
Wales / Scotland / Europe?

Wales yes!
Count me in!
Thats a start... now we need more names and dates..and somebody with a van we can fill with bikes!
good idea phil. i'm in.
anytime bar the 1st two weeks in july.
don't mind either scotland or wales.
Ok, so we are talking August then ???
First weekend is the bank holiday, handy for time off but presumably more expensive for sailings.
I assume people want to do a long weekend type arrangement, talking a Friday or Monday off?
something like that sounds good. maybe the club members who did this before could advise on what's best to do??
