View Full Version : Advice on Stems

I've recently started trying to customise my bike. I've lowered the handlears by swapping around the spacers. Unfortunately, this has left me with a big huge hunk of metal sticking up in the middle of the handlebars. Given my penchant for falling over the handlebars I'm beginning to think this might do some damage!

I've had a look on chainreactioncycles.com for a stem bit thing, but there are loads and I don't really know what ones are good. All I know is that I need something flat.

I'd appreciate if anyone could give me some advice on what stem would be good, and what price I should think about paying.

Thanks,

G

You can chop off the extra bit that you've exposed with a hacksaw if you've found that the new lowness is to your liking. It is a rather permanent solution, however.

If you're fixed on a new stem....

For absolute lightness, you'll want a Syntace F99 (http://www.starbike.com/php/product_info.php?lang=en&pid=6660) (with titanium bolt kit, natch) but something more affordable might be an FSA (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=2251) or Easton (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=11614)

Just make sure that the clamp size matches up with your handlebar - it's either 25.4mm or 31.8mm

I've a few stems of various lengths, angles if you want to try them out over a few spins. I'll throw them in the van, but remind me to give them to you! Old man...old brain!!
