What would you pick if buying a wheelset?
Hope ProII or Shimano XTR
Am being won over with the ease of service and freewheel click on the Hopes but I hear the XTRs are deadly too...

Do you want centrelock or 6-bolt disks?
Do you want the hubs to come with quick releases or have to pay extra for them?
The Hopes come in nice colours.

Six bolt. I would like free quick releases. I like nice colours.. Hmmmm when you put it like that Hope seem the obvious option. However, they are a good bit heavier than the XTRs...

The weight is at the centre of the wheel so it's not such a big deal.
It's the XTRs that come with quick releases.
If you could get the Hopes in the sponsored-rider-only green then there would be no question.

though Rob accidently pulled his hope hubs apart whilst removing the cassette.
Centrelock are the way to go, no more losing bolts on spin.

Ah but then I would have to get new rotors and I'm not sure if Avid make centrelock. Which rims did you get Cormac? I'm thinking the 355s as the Olympics may be a bit weak.

I went for XTR hubs on olympic rims. Coundn't resist the allure of the free quick releases. I have had no problems so far, though I have not really used(abused) them much. The 355 rims are only slightly heaver. THe only problem with the hope hubs is that you cannot sneak up on someone as they will hear you from the other side of the course.
You could always go for the race 7000 option at 1165g, but these have a 75kg weight limit and cost a small fortune.
The rims come with valves and the yellow rim tape so are ready to use with tubeless tyres. A rim strip is needed(recommended) for normal tyres.
Does it really matter what make of rotor you use, so long as the diameter is the same?

Actually wait, I have confused myself. Are the prices listed on rideingalong one wheel or a set?

You don't need new rotors for centrelock. These adaptors from DT Swiss fit 6 bolt rotors on centrelock hubs with no hassle and they actually weigh less than the six bolts usually used to attach 6 bolt discs (29 grams).

Steve you know my recommendation - the Shimano XTR wheels work brilliantly. No rim strips, no messing around and very light. They are strong too.

Yeah the XTR's are very nice Oisin. Would be saving 100e going this route while having a bling (if I go with the hopes) and very light wheelset though. Will give it a week and see how Cormacs' fair before committing to anything.

Exactly... Now if only I could afford some electric blue Chris Kings... If anybody sees some good deals on Eebay for Chris King hubs, let me know.
