I was looking at those boots Declan, they any good?

They are deadly Liam. I have had them for a couple of winters and would highly reccommend them.

are they not the roadie version of the boot though?

slippy soles..

if so, good for comuting and general roadiness though, but scary if you have to hike a bike at all..

You might be right Grahamo but they are grand. As bad as my other cycling shoes so don't really know any better. They really do the job of keeping your feet warm and dry though. Combined with seal skins and they are something to be reckoned with!

Speaking of slippyness- has anybody been cycling round the magazine fort in the park lately? You know that steep tarmac path that goes up opposite the fort? Its mental now. A stream has been flowing down it for months making it like ice!

bate a few nails into them from the inside out - perfect

i was thinking of getting some of that grip tape you can get for skateboards ... like sandpaper so at least it would give some grip on rocks/roots

Or i could just man up and cycle the damn bike

(unlikely though that may be!)

Did not think you could attach mountain bike spd cleats to a roadie shoe... Unless you are using another shoe manufacturer who use the same cleat/pedal design for both road and mountain.

Wha?! You calling my boots roadie shoes? Well I oughta!!

They defo have a bit of grip on them and the sole is rubber

Richie

Heaven forbid the thought Steve... if you have a pair of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=1485 they are mtb, but a pair of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=9114

are roadie...

I could be wrong as I'm new to the whole roadie scene...

Scrivo

Phew... You had me worried for a second there. I have the first pair. The embarrassment of having the others would be too much I think. Thats a bit like wearing overshoes or having mud guards.

paddyobrien

well it does say

"SPD-SL, SPD-R, SPD and Look* cleat compatible."

so they should work with SPDs

I think the ideal winter shoes are normal shoes with overshoes, but you have to be Man enough to take the slagging! Myself, I just use normal shoes with Seal skins and leave the shoes to dry out for 3-4 days after each spin!

Richie

Maybe you can get them on without adapters and the like - someone buy'em and give it a lash...

a normal spd cleat fits on just scroll through the pics and look at the underside

and i have seen them in a shop so the will fit

The shoes are the Road winter shoes. RW01 - the mountain bike version would be MW01.

If you never put your feet down they'll be fine.

I have the mountain bike version and they're great. Not 100% waterproof but with Sealskinz and liners fantastic in winter. And without the Goretex liner of the newer shoes they don't overheat - so pretty damn good for autumn and Spring too.

Declan, if you've still got the boots I wouldn't mind taking a look at the next spin..

same goes for the bars if they don't sell

Conor

Good stuff Graham/Conor, I'll bring them along next spin we're on or you can pop in anytime you're over Sandyford direction.
