I've just taken a bit of a flyer and bought a 05 Epic S-Works. It's a little bit scruffy around the edges but the frame is clean and it has plenty of XTR bits - wheels, brakes + gear shifters and the price was right!

It has Marzocchi Marathon SL forks which I would like to replace (no lock-out!) - what would people suggest as the best replacement?

Should I just send the rear "brain" away to be serviced and get it over with?

The previous owner has replaced the rear cassette etc with XT bits - should I go back to XTR?

I have another bike so I'm not in a mad rush but I would like to end up with a light reliable bike to keep for a couple of years!

Fork: Rockshox Reba or SID, depending on budget.

Rear shock may need a service if it hasn't been done before.

XT to XTR - XTR will be a bit lighter but work the exact same, once again, depends how much money you want to spend.
