So here it is the first single speed national championships to ever hit the shores of Ireland. With great thanks to the lads of Galway we will be running the event in association with the Connacht Mountain Bike League on the 19th October in Kilcornan Woods, Clarenbridge near Galway.

By all reports the course is about 6km of fairly flat but seriously fast trails with about 90% of it being single track so looks time to get those small cogs out of hibernation and prey for the rain to stop. The amount of laps is yet to be decided but will probably be based on the amount of beer consumed by the riders the night before.

Keep checking the site for details and we will publish them as they become more clear. The current plan is to go for a sociable ride somewhere on Saturday and then some beers on Saturday night followed by a race on Sunday.

Keep checking http://www.singlespeedireland.com/ for more updates

that course is ideal for singlespeeding as it is extraordinarily muddy. good luck anyway freak

i think the winner should have to get a tatoo like in the world championships. Then we can let ollie win and tatoo him with a tricolour!

I'm Club Chairman Morgan O'Connell and I condemn this hideous event.

the nerve of you Morgan - you're the one who put the poor lad up to it!!!!

Now look at all the guff he's getting!!

(though deserved guff I must admit....)

it's just Morgan's ploy to disuade others from entering the race so he can win it.

Yep this is all Morgans fault for the single speed perversion...

But within a month we have a national championships organized with interest from sponsors and people from the UK coming over.

Watch out for more freakish events next year...

This sick charade is a blight on the landscape of Irish mountainbiking.

I am feeling strangely allured by this weird singlespeed fetish, even purchased a frame with the intent of converting to the dark side
