That was a ferocious action-packed day - I hardly know where to start. Thanks to everyone in Epic (and Fergal, the trailbuiding maestro) for all the obvious hard work they put into the trail and running things. Great spread of food at the end too. Shame everything got so muddy - made it a lot more challenging. I got my first ever mtb medal though! No doubt it'll be the start of a run of success in 2009.
So, will MAD be able to come up with something to match the Blast next year?
There are some photos up here:

richie that would be micheal you were talking to
he should be along soon
Does that mean MAD are hosting it next year Morgan?
Thanks Richie :o) I had an amazing day, so much fun.
I was absolutely terrified starting my first run cos I hadn't seen the course at all and haven't riden on anything difficult since I injured my wrist.
But by the last race of the day I was going all out, it was just brilliant :o)
Thanks to everyone who put in so much effort for the event, you did yourselves proud!!

Hosting it? The Blast is EPICs event. We'll have to come up with something all of our own.

That was the most fun race of the year for me. No pacing, holding back or conserving energy... just full throttle the whole way down. Hitting jumps faster then ever before with the adrenaline, knocking into other people trying to overtake them on sketchy corners. It was a mud bath but that didn't take away from it at all. It was seriously physically demanding - my lungs and legs were burning each time at the bottom.
Well done to Epic who put on a great event and to everyone there who made such a good atmosphere. I'm looking forward to next year already. Anyone got any more photos/videos? Who was the pro photographer who had photos showing in a tent at the finish area and do they have a website with them?

you can read my post on the epic site:
http://www.epicmtb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5650
but to summarise it was a brilliant , brilliant day!!
I'm ashamed of any MAD rider (who did not have a proper excuse) who didn't turn up for the MTB event of the year, there were only about 10 or 12 of us - we should have had 2 or 3 times that number
Now I know there's lads and ladies with families and work all and that's fine, but there were riders who just didn't bother and it's completely your loss if you didn't turn up.
I'm very proud of Ash I must say, she has the spirit of REAL MTB and it's great to have people like that in the club - hell even the gentleman of the club - Morgan - was pulling dirty moves and getting all fast and filthy and loving it!!

What a day, im hurting so bad i wish i had a desk job, well nearly. That was my first blast ever and the first race i did bar the Dixie Dashs. I have to say it was stoketastic and i was amazed i finished all three races. Lack of fitness really held me back on all the uphill sections but sure that is something to work on.
Fair play to all involved in setting up the day, it was really well organised and man did i eat some amount of sangers. Big thanks to the ladies!!!
As for the races i managed to finish all three but i reckon i must have set a record for crashes. Most of them were in the schlompy sections which were like ice rinks and weren't to bad. But i did manage a spectacular fast crash in the forest section berfore the gully and i have the marks to prove it.
Had a great day, roll on the Bree DH and my inevitable hospitalisation.....................

Can you spot the MAD rider who seems to have forgotten that that that blast is in essence a CYCLING race?
Answers on a postcard.....

Michael is easily spotted with his enormous orange parachute - he's rivalling Eoin Keith on the giant rucksack stakes. Looks like Cait in the still above too.

Michael, Michael Michael
yo in trouble!
it was me running through the last section
saw that in the movie earlier, hoped no one would point it out.. but there you go :)
got a flat in after the north shore section on the fireroad!??
managed to keep a fairly good pace on the fireroad with the flat.
mind you it wasn't fast enough, even FergalJ managed to pass me!!
had to get that in there :)
but I wanted to finish it, so managed to run the rest of it
great vid though, after my hill running escapades you can see two blokes fall straight over the bars on the gap jump, they look like they were shot at the top of the jump :)

Some good shots there Aine. What's this about me being a gentleman biker - when did that happen? That's good, right?

That woodwork looks a lot smaller than it did on Sunday.
I see Steve is promoting the benefits of ghetto-tubeless:

or maybe its an optical illusion, could be an endo manual at the far side of the fireroad, nothing to do with the ramp at all..

Hey - I didn't realise there was breakdancing at the Blast:

Meanwhile, Graham D was getting RAD!

I guess that makes up for the cyclo-jogging.

diamondG
16-09-2008, 10:31 AM
thank you Phil, ninja is my middle name..
there was one of the jumps the back wheel flicked right out, complete accident, but it came together and for a moment I felt proper cool :)
I was so chuffed, I mentioned it to the spectators at the jump as I sped off into the berm..
something along the lines of 'tail ship, you love it!!!
