Hello from Spain. My name is Berty and this is my first time in this forum, I,m going to Doblin in a couple of months with some friends and ours MTB. We are looking for some places to ride. Can you help us? we apreciate your help with maps, tracks for GPS o any information which we can use for our rides in Dublin. Our preferences are offroad and some freeride outdoors.
Thanks for all and i hope to enjoy ridding in that beautiful country.

Hi berty,
apologies i missed this post the first time.
There are very few official trails around ireland unforuntately. The first set of which are in Ballinastoe forest (near Enniskerry, Co Wicklow which is south of dublin).
There are however loads of trails around which we use on a much more regular basis than those. Some of these are easily cycleable from dublin city centre, but most are down in wicklow.
I don't have a GPS myself so can;t help you with any tracks like that but maybe someone else can send you some files. Your best bet is just to let us know when you're coming over and myself or someone else will be more than glad to take you out and show you all the trails ourselves

GPS maps will mean little or nothing to you Berty, you need a guide/to come out with a club, all the best trails are unmarked thus you'd never find them on your own
drop us a mail/post before you arrive and we'll see what we can do for you

Thanks paddyobrien and fergal. I apreciate your help. That is better than the gpss. i will be there only for 4 days but i hope to ride all days. The problem is i only have my bike to move in Dublin. Is possible to cicle from Dublin center to Wicklow or any of those trails you coment? I`m watching google earth and it seems about 17 km. Is that true?

Yes it is easily cycleable from the city centre to the trails. There are many trails on Three Rock Mountain which is about 15K from city centre. We usually meet in Rathfarnham and cycle from there.

hey berty,
If you have a pedallable bike (XC or all mountain type) and you're around on a weekend we'll be able to take you on a big long trip of up to 6 or 8 hours if you wish and we can take it loads of fantastic trails.
For the MAD heads reading i'd be thinking of 3 rock - fairy - wocas - prince willies - wicklow way - crone - maulin - djouce boardwalks - lugalla - ballinastoe - djouce - powerscourt and home on the road. Thats about as good and varied a trip i can think of at the moment
(though i am tired just thinking of it!)

Hello paddyobrien that is incredible, how many kilometres is that? I think i am fit to cicle 8 hours i dont know how high are the wicklow mountains, here in Galicia we have too many mountains with the same altitude, probably i will feel like home (the photos in internet are amazing). My bike is a Trek fuel 90, its good to cicle long trips and when the terrain becomes free or DH (not pro of course) the manitou minute II works great..........i like my ride. Anyway i understand that we need two days for that trip, the first day 3 rock to powerscourt then sleep in a bed and breakfast and next day come back to Dublin or is a one day trip. Both are ok to me.
This link http://picasaweb.google.es/bertymar is my albumweb of my trips around the world. id hope you like it

hey bertie,
that trip i mentioned would be a one day trip ... maybe 60km or so and then another 20km on the road back to dublin. The mountains themselves are not that high (maybe about 5 - 600metres, but there is lots of up and down and the tracks are quite technical) and there's plenty of options to cut the trip shorter if we need to.
