I am a Newbie to mountain biking and have been looking for an entry level bike .
Ive come across a few different bikes and the trek 4300 disc seems to be one that stands out the most.
Could you give me advice?
Like what's the 50€ price differnce between the 4300 and the 4300 disc?
What's the general opinion of this bike ?

You're paying extra for the disc brakes - and it's worth every penny. I wouldn't even consider a bike with v-brakes for Irish conditions. Also check out the Giant XTC and Specialized Hardrock in that price range.

The 4300 without the disk brakes is the cheaper out of the 2, which I think is strange.

That's what you'd expect - disc brakes are more expensive than vees (rim brakes).

Sorry, just seen what I wrote. Should say the 4300 without the disc brakes is more expensive than the bike with the disk brakes
..Which is strange.!

it seems it is dearer because it has better forks ,rear mec and is a 9 speed and not an 8
thats just my opinion

not just the rear mech, shifters and front mech are better too.
I'm not sure what those shimano mechanical disc brakes are like either, but the avid v brakes are decent enough

i'd say go for the trek 4500, it has better spec and has the ability to upgrade to discs in future if you want.
the trek 4500 is the bike i started on, and it was a really realiable bike, it didn't look half bad either.
who knows, if you buy that bike you might even be as cool as me, but thats not gauranteed.

So the Trek 4500 is the beginners bike to go for? Or is there any others that you can recommend? Also any good/honest and reliable suppliers round the Dublin area?

other good ones are the specialized hardrock or the giant xtc (comes in every spec from beginners right through to pro racer). Try the cycle inn or cyclesuperstore in tallaght or cycleways on parnell street

i started my mtb career on a specialized hardrock sport which i got from cycleways in town. T'is a great reliable bike that is still serving me well after all it's been through (and it's been through alot), is a bit heavy though (my full suss weighs less!). In hindsight though i could've probably got alot more bike for a little more cash. For example check out the great offers for bikes on this website.

do you mean suppliers for trek bikes in dublin or just bike shop's in general in dublin?
Hollingworth in templelogue has a good selection of all the new range of trek bikes. Also there's a trek bikeshop on aungier street in town but i've never been in it so i'm unsure if they do specialist bike's?

as well as paddyobriens good suggestion's above i'd also recommend the entry level LaPierre's in cyclesuperstore. They are pretty good value and are also quite light.
hope these help!

i've been in that trek shop on aungier street, and i'll be honest, it's not the best. there is another bike shop about a minute up the road from that trek shop and it seems to be quite good, they have a large selection of bikes and a huge store, they are also very helpfull, i pretty much got a tutorial from one of the guys in there the other day, complete with visual aids!
i'd also recommend paulscycles.co.uk, i got my bike there at a very nice price, and i'm very happy with it.
