Rides this week - time to choose
There’s a lot on this week - road racing, beginners rides, club league and a welcome return to proper Sunday spins.
The Mick Lally Memorial race is on this evening the Phoenix Park. Last weeks race was cancelled so this another chance to give road racing a go (main park road, 7.15pm). There’s more racing on Thursday with the regular Club League taking place in Slade Valley (7.15pm).
On Saturday Nigel and Paddy with lead a beginners spin to Masseys Wood. Everyone, including complete novices is welcome on this one. Meeting at the Yellow House at 10am.
Finally on Sunday we’ll have the first club spin in ages (the NPS season has been taking up all our time). There are a couple of options so we’d like you all to choose, after all MAD is the club that listens to its members. The first option is to start at the Yellow House and follow the Wicklow Way over Kilmashogue, Prince Williams Seat, Crone and on to Djouce. Here we’d ride around the POG course and return via the Sally Gap. Option 2 is to meet at Kindlestown, do a lap or two of the track, then head to Glen of the Downs and up to the summit of the Sugarloaf. Both spins would be quite long but there are several opportunities to cut the ride short on each. It’s up to you…

It’s early days yet - we still have to receive the postal ballots and those from the islands.
August 15th, 2006 at 3:22 pm
oh…. Another crack at the Jaysus Gully sounds good!!
August 15th, 2006 at 3:32 pm
I’ll quite possibly die on the way up, and on the way down, from what I’ve been told, roll on the sugarloaf.
August 15th, 2006 at 4:42 pm
dammit .. you can’t vote repeatedly
my cunning plan is foiled!
August 15th, 2006 at 5:08 pm
so who else voted for Djouce?
August 15th, 2006 at 5:28 pm
i quite the sound of djouce, the thought of gettin another crack at the pog course would be good, but then again i’ve never been to the sugarloaf………all sounds good
August 15th, 2006 at 6:44 pm
As I said on the google message board (and how many accounts do we need for this damn club, anyway?!): Sugarloaf, Sugarloaf.
August 15th, 2006 at 9:31 pm
Sean, I voted for Djouce, but at 31% of the votes - I think we’re gonna have to wait ’til next time, anyway, K’town rocks and I’m looking forward to the spooky tunnel…and what’s this Jaysus Gully? - is that a MAD christening for a gully that you scream out “JAYSUS!” as you are sucked into it?
August 16th, 2006 at 12:38 am
I better keep the booze intake to a minimum on saturday night! can’t wait for sugarloaf!
August 16th, 2006 at 9:51 am
As far as I know the “JAYSUS” Gully is called such because the first time Jamie Potham (ninja downhiller) went down it that is what he was saying… I’ve never been down it - maybe I should take my big bike
August 16th, 2006 at 10:55 am
take big bike! DO IT
August 16th, 2006 at 4:44 pm
the jaysus gully is mad, really steep, loose, rocky, hang your arse over the back of the bike, no chance of stopping until the bottom (unless you crash) type of place.
fun though
August 16th, 2006 at 10:06 pm
hmm, 22 people have voted, and you can’t vote twice…..does that mean that 22 people are intending joining us on the spin this Sunday?
August 17th, 2006 at 7:07 am
I have to admit, I voted for Sugarloaf cos if was there I would be keen. Enjoy the spin lads…
August 17th, 2006 at 9:30 am
good man roddy … yours was obviously one of the postal ballots!
August 17th, 2006 at 9:32 am
You’ll be with us in spirit so Roddy! 21 people on a spin would be SOME turnout - even half that amount will be good
August 17th, 2006 at 10:25 am
Voter fraud and fear of heights aside, I’ll be there. I can see the peak of the ‘loaf beckoning out the back window as I type. Although, looking more closely, it might actually be taunting…! Whatever the case, it’s a vast improvement on yesterday when it was shrouded in a thick layer of cloud all day.
August 17th, 2006 at 11:37 am
I’ll definitely be there and i too shall bring my fear of heights!!Roddy my man we shall be thinking of you…
Tom
August 18th, 2006 at 2:28 pm
I’d like to be there as well, that’s why I had my vote as well (one of the Winners)
August 19th, 2006 at 6:22 pm
Got to drop out of sunday, problems with bike, anyway have a good one lads.
August 20th, 2006 at 6:40 pm
Beast spin today lads. Ill leave it up to someone else to write the report (que Fergal!) But it was deadly! My vote is for Glendalough next Sunday, was deadly the only other time I did it and I dont think many people from MAD have been there.
Anyway, thanks all for todays legendary spin!
August 20th, 2006 at 8:08 pm
Unfortunately neither my car (crashed) nor bike (problem with frame)were ready for it. I wish I were there with you…
August 20th, 2006 at 10:01 pm
Glendalaugh you say? hmm, maybe…..but we did have something a bit “special” planned…..
August 21st, 2006 at 10:11 am
I love the primordial comments mountainbikers (esp. Steve) use to describe various aspects of the sport; terms such as ‘train to become savages’ and ‘beast spin’, Yeah! GRRRRR!!!
Another excellent example was the terrifying caveman-esque roars from Tom as his legs were being lashed by the gorse coming down that evil section; “AAAARRRRGGHHHHUUGGHHH”, it’s no wonder the pikeys at the end of the jaysus gully didn’t come near us….
