A gap in the spin calendar this weekend?
Well now, better fill that void quickly!
Ok my trail-tuned friends, for those not doing the improvers spin,
it’s time for a bit more trail-building up 3 Rock On Saturday 14 April
I’ll be there from early (about 9am) until the afternoon - all welcome!
Bring saws/loppers/rakes for guaranteed good time
We’ll work on the XC part of the DH trail we were previously working on.

count me in fergal!
I’ll bring me shovel, rake and some elbow grease!
I even have some old garden lights, they recharge in the sun and light up at night time (don’t nobody laugh, yes I did buy them myself, I was going through a funny phase!)
stopped using ‘em as I got sick of the garden looking like a bleedin’ runway.
understandably, I don’t want them, so if its ok to leave them up there, they might be good to mark corners or something…
Also have some wood. They are similar to pallets but in the shape of a crate (approx 1×1x3 feet) and I’ve 2 of them. I could break them up if we need any wood.

yeah, shovel and rake would do fine, I think the wood that is there will do for now but I’ll keep what you have in mind.
the lights would be good but they’d never recharge in the forest due to lack of light, (unless we seperate the solar element from the lamp and linked them via a wire…hmmm) outside the forest we’d get complaints I’m sure….my back garden could do with some illumination though……

Gentlemen, as a longtime MTB person, I am of the opinion that the work you did on a so called public track is of no harm to anybody. It was built by Coillte as a firebreak, you improved it. People can still pedal or attempt to pedal up the rock, but the really hardcore will pedal up the track in the forest ( new DH track) I find this far more challenging than the rocks anyway.
Ignore the comments of others, they didn’t build the track and have no business objecting to what you’ve done. MAD does a great job encouraging new people into the sport, they support all events, and everybody of any mtb consequence spent at least a short time in MAD, keep up the good work and f*ck the begrudgers,

Graham,
I’m gonna park at the far edge of the forest as it’ll be much nearer to the track.
I don’t know exact directions but you follow the road along by the Blue Light and it winds around until you come to a wooden gate on your right.
Over this gate is a fireroad which leads all the way up to the course - pretty sure you know it, it’s the really steep one that you do after coming out of the downhill course.

i was rudely told to cycle up by some anonymous blogger but you’ll be happy to hear that after my training spin today i am left with no spare tubes or a tube in my front wheel! i had to walk the bike home for the last part of my spin, therefor i cant cycle up, so smeh!

wow, things are looking really good up there, it’s just about finished,but with a lot of scope for extending at a later stage. not to be outdone by epic, we built a nice rock-feature, plus a smaller one.
Workers of the day awards go to Spartacus for great rock-work and Shane “There’s nothing that cannot be lopped” Gheoghegan for lopping through whole trees….
Slacker of the day award goes to Steve “party when Fergal is gone” Scrivener who apparently had women and alcohol at the ready for when I left.
I could hear whoopin’ and hollerin’ as I walked down the fireroad….feckers…

no trees were lopped-through, there were no women dancing in the forest, and there was no alcohol consumed during work operations.

all we need to do now is add in a few burms and what not
we built one at that very very tight right hand turn on the switchback thingy and it helps alot
now all we need to do is get a few wheels over it and it will be great

sorry i couldnt make it up but with my banjanxed knee it took me nearly an hour to walk to hollingsworth from my house (and i live relatively near it!), so i’d probably still be on my way if i decided to walk up to three rock!

Fergal, have you seen the trail since Saturday? check it out, its lookin damn pretty good.
After we ran out of birds n booze we did some more on the trail. (I knew we should brough more birds n booze : (
Its all the way out to the other side, all branches lopped and the berm made of rocks on that tighter than tight corner is pretty cool.
The lads took a few runs on it, and it looks deadly

nice on Graham, I’m gonna pop up there tonight as I have the bike with me, that rocked-berm the lads were constructing looked very intriguing, also loking forward to the “rock-fall” (err…that’s like the waterless rocky waterfall)

Rock-fall is the biz, if you miss the one line down it you go OTB but there’s a lovely soft landing as i discovered.
The berm is sweet, top work, and the exit nice and discreet - just the way it should be, ye are a credit to the club!
wit ’til ye see the next job I have us, ye probably won’t be smiling when ye see the amount of work to be done -including a big ladder drop into a Hiroshima-sized bombhole I found –waheey!!
although there are some other smaller sections that we could do easily in an afternoon so we could think about those first.
