MAD Dixie Dash 2007 Round 1
Round 1 is postponedd due to bad conditions
It has been moved to Tues 21st August
- Not too keen on big durty fireroad climbs?
- Do you enjoy the assistance of gravity in your biking?
- Ever feel like going just a little bit MADder?
Well now….
Round 1 of the MAD Dixie Dash is scheduled for next Tuesday evening, 14th Aug.
It will be a short point-to-point competetive spin (20-30 mins).
Route details here
Planned start time is for everyone to assemble at Fairycastle at 7pm, with the first group of riders (3 or 4 at a time) off between 7:15 - 7:30pm.
You just might need lights for one of the forest sections depending on how cloudy it is but probably not - if you want to bring them then no probs.
If anyone would prefer to sit the first one out to see what it is like please let me know as we could do with your help with some organisation/timekeeping etc…
Remember, you need to be an mtb club member in order to participate.
Looking forward to seeing you having a huge amount of fun on your bike…

Cheers

I’m in too Fergal.
Ash, that shouldn’t be a problem, but Fergal can confirm that with you…
August 8th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
Ash - try to get to the beginners spin on Saturday this week and we’ll see how you go, this event is aimed at experienced bikers thus the reason for being in a club - generally implies that you’ve been out on a few mtb spins before
This event is a technically challenging course so we need to know that you’d be able for it before we just blindly sign you up on the day, want to be sure that no-one gets hurt you understand

I might sit this one out, but I can help with times marshaling etc. I’ll race the next one.
August 9th, 2007 at 9:15 am
i will help ya out with the marshaling and time keeping also
August 9th, 2007 at 10:57 am
Thanks Fergal,no worries, see ya at Kindelstown on Saturday so :o)
August 10th, 2007 at 7:35 am
that’d be great if you could Conor - thanks a lot, that means we now have an additional marshall who can double as camera/filming person so we can capture all the hot action!!
Rachel Cinnsealach and Judith also said they would help, so we will also get to record split times along various sections - wow!!
It’d be great to get a cool promo video made so that we can get more people out to the following races.
Cheers

Unfortunately I can’t go cause I’ll be away. I’m sure it will be brilliant and I’m looking forward to doing the next one.

This is going to be deadly…. Can’t wait!!!! Going to be interesting to see who wins it. I reckon if one of the hot XC lads come, they could take it. Good bit of fairly flat singletrack to weave around where the 6 inchers might be a bit lazy. Tough one to call..
August 13th, 2007 at 8:26 am
Yep count me in to do it if I can get over to that side of town in time for the race.
August 19th, 2007 at 7:21 pm

fair play to the 19 dixies that headed up to a windswept fairycastle, I was rattling with the cold by the time I headed down
First group off was the dh young guns - Greg Callaghan, Gavin Kelly, Gavin Carroll, Dan Sheridan, Paul Smyth, Mark Dolan
with some of them going through the rocks instead of to the right- crackpots, though they weren’t the only ones who made-up there own route…..
The second group of Karl Thomas, Rob Drohan, Dave Foster, John Doris didn’t fare much better turning left instead of right and ending up down near the upper aerials and having to scramble down to the fireroad - and these were the gown-ups
Third group was Steve Scrivener, Oisin Boydell, Enda O’Reilly, Karl Dempsey and Nigel Shekleton and were the first group to get their directions right, Oisin and Steve having a good scrap most of the way down, just 3 seconds serperating them at the end
Final group was Sean Herlihy, Fergal Kilkenny, Damo Mulchrone and Alfie Wallace, Alfie was an early victim of a puncture, the happy fairy and transporter bate off down the descent so fast it made me cry
Got a bit along the fireroad and witnessed what I thought was a man brought down by a sniper, the fairy didn’t look too happy as he lay motionless on the side of the road, victim of one of the most bizarre accidents I’ve heard of in biking, I slowed but was told to keep going - very nice of a dying man not to delay another rider I thought then off I went.
First forest section was ok - you could see where you were going, the second was pretty dark - lights would have been handy.
The dh track flowed well into the lower part of the MADjestic course but was well sliddery, I fell into the ferny descent without the bike but had a soft nice landing
..and that was pretty much that!
hopefully see a few more out for more extreme orienteering next week
