Weekend of Doom!
We’ll have another ride around Djouce on Saturday morning. Martin now knows the trails like the back of his hand and will lead everyone to their doom. Leaving from the lower car park in Djouce at 10am - get there on time because Martin waits for no-one.
Martin passed a lot of tips on to me last week so I’m going to have a go at leading a spin myself on Sunday. This will be “awesome with savage overtones” on the MAD ride-o-meter so be prepared. I have a route in mind but there will be a bit of improvisation. We’ll leave from the Glendalough visitors centre car park at 9am (once again, be on time).

That was some spin today. Glendo is the gem of Wickla! Left the visitors centre a little after 9 and after a load of pointless fire road. Hiked the whole way up to the sleepers. WOW! Scared the bejaysus out of myself on them…. They go on and on and on with steps all over the place. Thought I was in heaven! Then onto the miners trail. WOW! I can see why EPIC are constantly raving about it. I was riding really well and got down a bit before the lads which was really lucky. Just as I got a clean run down, a load of walkers started asscending in all of their wooly jumperness.
Then onto Camanderry. After a fairly painful climb up the road. We climbed up to the resevoir and then descended into the bog of death. Lots of struggling through massive holes and then it was onto the descent of awesomeness. Flat out, no brakes grassy descent. Was nearly gone a few times and cut a few corners while out of control.
All in all a brilliant spin with a cool crew great weather. Bit of a poor turnout with only myself, Cormac, Paddy, Karl, Morgan and Tom. Come on people, one of the best days biking possible and only a few weeks before the shlomp sets in?!! Crazy………
Ill let somebody else describe my crash…
And Toms charm of old walkers reigned supreme…

I have to agree with Steve, it really was a great day out, despite getting a little bit lost at first we soon retraced our steps and cut back to our intended path via a nice little track spotted by Steve, one hike a bike later and we found ourselves slithering along some exciting/terrifying boardwalks,..
The first section of the miners trail defeated me , but the zig zag section was nearly all rideable and thoroughly enjoyable, returning to the car park for our second part of the day we found a sweet little trail running parallel to the fireroad on the rivers shore where myself, Morgan and Steve had a great blast…”Cormac was spotted on the road above”, an insider said..
Then came the action shot of the day, poor Steve was entertaining himself by riding a mud-bank raised about 10-12 inches alongside the road, he hit it at pace and somehow lost the front end, which resulted in his bike staying put as he careered along the bank on his chest at great speed, he then shot over the edge of the bank and came to rest on an 8ft slope onto the river shore, on the other shore nearby were about 30 bamboozled tourists who only saw Steve skittering along the bank, I’m sure Steve agrees it was pretty funny!!?….
The next 40 minutes are best forgotten, we then found ourselves ripping along a lunar like landscape, before a rocky descent which was a total hoot, followed by a top class grassy and somewhat bumpy descent at speed, after which we popped back into a fast forest section and were ejected out onto the road, a great MAD day out. Thanks to those who gave lifts and led us around, it’s much appreciated

Frickin awesome spin .. though the final climb very nearly killed me.
Steves’ crash was pure genius, one of the days highlights for sure.
And that final descent off Camaderry, for once i really was flying along .. some buzz in my head by the end.
Roll on next weekend. i suggest Crone, Djouce, sleepers, lugalla, pog course, ballinastoe, djouce, powerscourt.

That was a great spin, was good to find Ack so dry.
I was very surprised to find that you did not know about Earl’s Drive or the red road.

That was a great spin yesterday - one of the most enjoyable in ages. So many highlights - Paddys exploding pants, eating jelly sweets off the ground, Karl and Cormac’s matching sunglasses, sandwich throwing… Doesn’t get much better than this.
