First Trailbuilding Session of 2008

I knew you were all waiting eagerly for this one so here we go.
If we don’t get something like the picture above built I’ll be very disappointed.
Well, not really but we’ll get as much done as we can.

Venue is 3rock and the date is Saturday 19 Jan 2008.

People will likely be making it up at different times so whenever you can make it up that’d be great, just don’t wait until it’s dark!

We’ll be toughening up some sections near the upper aerials (eg; Satellite Run) to make them more schlomp-free so they remain usable even in soggy conditions.
Depending on availability of wood, there’ll be some woodwork required too, the lead-in to the trail that Scrivo & Cormac & the lads built is fairly wrecked so could do with an extension of the bridge they built - we’ll see how it goes.

There’s amap below showing the various locations - just to be clear, we’ll target getting Locations 1 and 2 done on Saturday.

Tools of the day will be buckets, shovel, rake.

Check out the work locations map here

Thanks for your help!

Assuming I’m not working, count me in. With my shovel/spade and maybe a bucket!

  2. rob Says:

I’ll plan on being there. I’ll bring the usual. Band-saw, hatchet, spade, rake, loppers.

  3. Tom Says:

I’ll be there for 11:00am, I’ll bring a hammer, and a flask of hot tea,..

  4. Fergal Says:

nice one Rob - the human trailbuilding machine!
thanks Tom, not too much milk in the tea for me please.

  5. Fergal Says:

I’ll try get a map made to the area where we will be working for other people to make it up there for whatever time they can

  7. Tom Says:

there was some chap on MBTIreland looking to join us, has anyone replied to him,..?..I was about to but I have forgotten my password, awaiting a new one now,…

Nght Spin Thursday 12th @ 7:30pm Ballinastoe, Fast as possible, I can offer 2 lifts from Milltown…

  8. Fergal Says:

…and we’ll be “bender-proofing” some of the technical parts of the
trails (per my mail) that somebody is messin’ with!!

  9. Fergal Says:

Tom, I’ll reply to that guy - thanks for the reminder

  10. Richie Says:

Yup I’ll be out for a few hours - will try to get there for about 8.30 or earlier. Will bring along a spade and rake…

  11. Conor Says:

I have 2 bags of plasterers sand that might help secure some rock gardens in Rock and Roll. We used it before on the RHS of TTOT and worked ok. I have half a small bag of cement too, or would that be overkill?? Should make it up by 8-30 meself.
Oh, I have a flask too, but it only holds coffee or J.D.!!

  12. Fergal Says:

ok lads, it’s all about stealth from now on, I want us to be able to enjoy the trails we’ve made so we’re gonna make the stuff as subtle as possible, no more paint/spray etc..
    let’s start thinking crafty….

  13. Declan Says:

Hi (I put the post on MTBIreland but removed it when I saw that the work locations were specified) anyway, I’m planning on being at 3 rock 8-9am Sat to help, assume all volunteers welcome.

  14. Fergal Says:

Hi Declan - yep, all welcome - thanks

You did the right thing re; removing the post from mtbireland as we don’t want to advertise the trails to everyone, also we have a problem with MXers ruining the trails so we ideally need to keep it as low key as we can, though obviously they could always check this site if they were really interested, but for the most part our trails don’t interest them as they’re too tight/technical.

    see you there!

Thanks to all those who turned up today,..with weather like this it’s easy to not bother showing up but we had a great showing of numbers today-you know who you are!..We made some existing trails more weatherproof and a new addition was made to the start of no-dabs…

  16. Fergal Says:

you bet - BIG THANKS to everyone who helped - savage amount of quality work - looking forward to getting a spin on all of it once this rain lifts, ooh it’s rotten outside!!!
I was impressed when everyone went ahead with the construction of the new entrance to no-dabs even though common sense said:
    “no-way man - you can’t do that !!”
