The launch of mountain bike guided holidays by All Mountain Experience.

From May 2008, Irish international Olympic rider, Tarja Owens, is leading mountain bike guided holidays in the beautiful mountains surrounding Lake Garda, in Northern Italy.

If you want a relaxing weekend cycling through the Vineyards of the Trentino Valley, or a weeks specific mountain bike tutoring with an Olympic athlete on some of the best trails in Europe, your holiday will be tailored to your needs.

As a once off, All Mountain Experience is offering you the opportunity to preview this years World Championships Downhill and 4x course. From 2nd until 4th May you can partake in a test-event held on the course. Or perhaps you prefer to experience the thrill of the 2008 World Mountain Bike Championships races in June. All Mountain Experience will organise it all, you just have to book your flight and arrive.

Easter Parade At Moneyscalp

This Sunday, 23rd March, round two of the International K-Capital MTB XCO Series will be held at Moneyscalp Forest near Newcastle in County Down. Round one of the series in Bray attracted a record 263 entries. The event is promoted by Banbridge Cycling Club. Confusion has been caused in some circles as to the venue, with Tollymore being listed in the calendar. The race was originally set for Tollymore but on the advice from the NI Forest Service the race had to be switched to Moneyscalp Wood, which in fact is an annex of Tollymore. (more…)

This is a great offer - I’ve often had over 4grands worth of bikes on the back of my car and always hope no uninsured eejit runs into the back of me, or hope no one steals my bike from a race venue etc.. as has happened before - this offer will set my mind at ease!

The Mountain Biking Ireland AGM will take place at Kilfinane, Co Limerick on Saturday March 1st. The itinerary for the weekend is as follows:

10am - meet main forest car park for a spin around the new trails (3 hours)
1.30pm - lunch/showers
3pm - AGM Ballyhoura forest lodges, Ballyorgan
5pm - Dinner/Social evening

On Sunday there are two events nearby, a duathlon in Limerick city or an XC race in Tracton wood, or another spin around the trails.There is accommodation available in the Ballyhoura forest lodges at €55 - €65 per person for two nights accommodation. Everyone is welcome.
There are plenty of B&B’s also available locally.

The new MAD website went live today. It doesn’t look very different, but the new site will make it much easier for us to keep our information up to date and add new articles. There’s also a new discussion forum where you can express your deepest thoughts. Let us know how you get on with the new setup.

Sections of the Ballinastoe Mountain Bike Trails will be closed from Monday 21st January 2008 for a period of about three weeks. This is to facilitate the closing works which need to be carried out to ensure that the trails are finished to the highest quality standards. We would ask all trail users to respect the section closure and re-routing signs. Your cooperation with these temporary section closures will ultimately result in a better mountain biking experience.

Additional charges may have to be paid if we can’t meet minimum order requirements, or we may not be able to offer the full range of gear. In order to avoid this, we need more orders!

Right folks, that time of year again when you get to update your wardrobe with the latest and greatest in cycling fashion.

Below, you will see an order form, in MS Excel. Fill it out (including any jerseys you wanted to order from Paddy) and return it to jerseys@madmtb.com and we’ll go from there.

You will see a wide variety of garments on the form. Their availability depends on meeting strict minimum quantity requirements so its possible that some items may not be ordered. You will be informed of this in good time and will have the opportunity to reassess your order.

We can’t confirm prices now, as prices always depend on quantities ordered but we can confirm that the more we order, the cheaper it becomes for everybody.
We can also confirm that we will NOT be using the same supplier as last year, so those of you with qualms about the shorts and tights should be happy.

Finally, I’d just like to encourage everyone to kit out in club gear and show you’re representing MAD while out on the trails at home and abroad and participating in races. It looks great and reflects well on the club when people are proud enough to show they’re a member.
Plus you might find that its as cheap or cheaper than buying brand name gear elsewhere.

Our good friends over at IMBRC are running the Cyclocross National Championship this (next?) year in Tymon park. For more details of this bizarre event click here.

The last and greatest event of the MAD 2007 social calendar is happening this Friday. The MAD Lash commences in the Bull and Castle, Christchurch, between 8 and 9pm. Come and meet your mtb heroes, or become a legend yourself on the night.

We’re also having a pre-Christmas spin on Sunday, riding the new trails at Ballinastoe. The pace will be Christmassy and everyone is welcome to come along. Starting cycling at 10am.

There will be a spin on St. Stephens day too - details to follow.
