MAD are busy trailbuilding this and next week cleaning up existing classics like “Rock n’ Roll” and “Romper Schlomper” and creating some great brand-new trails for you to enjoy, you’ll love them all!
We are delighted to announce that both Cycle Surgery and O.C. Tuning will be sponsoring this event.
Cycle Surgery are located in Dundrum just a gap jump or two from 3Rock and operate a well stocked store full of biking goodies, get down to their shop and have a look around or checkout their website.
OC Tuning are based out of Crumlin, Dublin and are Ireland’s only authorised Fox Racing Shox service & warranty centre, offering very fast (usually same day turn around) and very thorough and professional service.
James from OC Tuning intends to bring along some of his considerable collection of mountainbikes which cover a long era of mountainbiking history – come along and see the bikes and have a chat with James about the technology advances in suspension and frame designs that got us to where we are today.
James will also be on hand to assist with repairs on the day, but be sure to pack a pump, spare tubes and a multi-tool to keep yourself moving!
We hope to have online sign-on available in a few days, there will be a random draw for vouchers from our sponsors for all entrants who use the online system, so use the system and be in with a chance to nab a nice voucher for yourself.
MADMTB presents MAX-XC 2009!
2
MADMTB are pleased to announce an MTB XC-travaganza on 3 Rock Co. Dublin, 10th May 2009.
This event is being held to part-celebrate the 20th Anniversary of MADMTB: 20 Years Offroad 1989 to 2009.
The event is basically a loop of the best trails on 3Rock and can be ridden anyway you like.
Spot prizes will be awarded on a random basis and there will also be awards for the first finishing teams home – the trick being that you won’t know who is on your team until after you sign on.
Your race plate will include your number and your team number, it will be up to you to hunt-out your teammates and quickly swap power-gels, calibrate heart-rate monitors, drill holes in your saddles and formulate your winning plans…..
This event has been made possible via close co-operation with local landowners and Coillte, and we hope everything goes smoothly in order that we will be able to host further races in the area in future. With this regard, please take all your litter home with you and be respectful of other users of the forest on the day.
The event will be fully marshalled so make sure to cooperate with them as they’ll be doing their best to ensure that you get the best out of your day.
New trails have been specifically constructed by the MADMTB Singletrack Engineering Division for the event which offer a large variety of terrain which has something for everyone from fast sweeping fireroad with great views out over Dublin Bay and to the Sugarloaf, short rocky paths, fast easy singletrack, twisty switchback challenging technical singletrack, bombholes, dips, lips, swoops, whoops and not forgetting and a nice climb or two thrown in for the craic.
Info on distance and approx. time for completion will be added soon.
Schedule:
The course WILL NOT be marked on the Saturday, sign-on will be on Sunday morning from 8:00am to 10:30am.
The event will kick-off at 11am, it will take you approx 15 mins to cycle up the start line from the parking field so ensure to arrive in plenty of time!
Parking will be in a private field on the Glencullen side of 3Rock.
The field is on your right as you drive towards Glencullen from Ballyedmonduff/Stepaside direction.

Eireman-X Off-Road Triathalon
0Details of the Eireman-X off-road triathalon this May:
For those who are looking for an extra stimulus or a break from triathlon, mountain biking, cyclocross or adventure racing this will be right up you street. I quickly caution that this is neither a classic mountain bike course nor a straight forward triathlon. Éireman X is a test of nerve and endurance that will bring out the strengths and weakness of triathletes, mountain bikers, cyclocross riders and adventure seekers alike. We still have the familiar format of swim, cycle and run. But the ‘devil is in the detail’ of how this course is going to test your mind, body and spirit.
The world famous ‘Ironman distance’ triathlon was born out of a debate – who is the fitter - swimmers or runners. We propose to extend this debate to whom will be the faster -mountain bikers, triathletes, cyclocross or adventure racers over an off-road triathlon course. Each discipline have their own advantages. Let’s race them and see…
3 x points to note:
Bragging rights may be delayed as this pilot race may turn into a series of 3.
Don’t bring your best gear – you will be getting dirty and wet (not just the swim). Old runners recommended.
People who have entered the Éireman –Long or Middle distance triathlon will receive a discount off that main race if they enter Éireman X.
Entries open on Monday at 9am. First 100 entries get a groovier t-shirt…..
MAD Club Champs 2008
1This year’s MAD Club Champs takes place on Saturday the 6th of December. The venue is the Blue Light Pub where we’ll meet at 10am and head into the nearby trails for tests of strength and skill (Fergal has been busy laying out an awesome course). After this we’ll retire to the Blue Light for a review of the past year, the awarding of trophies and the election of the club committee for 2009.
Current, past and prospective MAD members are welcome to come along – as are our favourite riders from other clubs. The dress code is: sickening. As MAD enters it’s 20th year of existence we want you to wear your most offensive jersey from the 80′s and 90′s (you can find a lot of them here). The more garish the better.
That evening the fun-times will continue in the Market Bar on Fade St. We have tables booked for 8pm. Wear your drinking pants and your dancing shoes.
MAD Cyclocross Race This Weekend
0MAD are running Round 2 of the Supercross Cup this weekend in Tymon Park, Tallaght. The race takes place in the North part of the park and promises to be a fast and technical course with a good run-up along the way.
The underage race will begin at 12 noon, with races for all Senor categories at 1pm. Mountainbikes are welcome to take part.
Thanks to all the MAD members who have volunteered to assist at the race. If you haven’t been given a job for the day why not come along and spectate or even give the race a go – this will be an ideal introduction for anyone planning on racing next year.
Super Cross Cup 2008
0A four-race cyclocross series for Dublin has just been announced. Round one is this weekend in Corcaigh Park. MAD will be running round 2 in Tymon Park next week.
MTBs are welcome to take part in the races and these events would also be ideal for anyone wanting to give off-road racing a try for the first time.
Operation Spruce-up: Ticknock/3Rock Sat 11th Oct
1To all MADMTB members:
On Sat 11th Oct at 10am, the club intend to do a walk-up from Ticknock carpark to the aerials/3Rock with litter bags and collect various litter to help improve the appearance of the place.
Some areas are quite messy with lots of cans/bottles etc that need to be removed.
We’ll meet at lower Ticknock carpark at 10am – hopefully that time will suit people – it leaves your afternoon free for whatever else you want to do.
It will take us no more than 2 hours if there’s a fair few of us.
I’ll arrange the bin-bags, ensure you bring some gardening gloves along and some warm clothing.
This will serve the purpose of making the place more presentable for ourselves and our fellow forest users and help build good relations with Coillte and the various users of 3Rock.
Please come along and give a hand-out if you can – thanks a lot!
Regards,
Fergal Kilkenny MADMTB Club Secretary
