Endurance Racing Roundup
0Bontrager 24/12
At the end of July Ryan and Mel returned to Portsmouth to take part in the Bontrager 24/12, reported to be their most enjoyable race of the 2008 season. Once again they claimed the mixed-pairs title for the 12-hour event. You can read a full report of how they got on Ryan and Mel’s blogs.
Sleepless in the Saddle
Three teams from MAD headed over to the Sleepless in the Saddle 24-hour race at Catton Park, UK on August 8th. Morgan, Phil, Steve and Shane made up a team of four, while Paddy & Conor and Sean & Cormac made the unenviable mistake of entering the pairs category. You’ll find details of the aftermath in the forum. It’s only thanks to the tireless race-support from Aine that they made it back at all.
There are loads of photos from the race too including these from Aine and Morgan as well as official photos of Conor, Paddy, Morgan, Phil and Steve. There’s also write-up on the British Cycling website too, starring Phil! Full results and lap times
TransWales

Finally, seemingly having forgetten the trauma of last year, rigid-singlespeed-29er aficionado Ollie Castle has just headed off to take part in the TransWales mtb stage race for a second time. Seven days of slogging through mud and rain lie ahead. You can follow his grim progress on Twitter.

MAD at Mountain Mayhem
0Good luck to MAD members Brian “Forrest Gump” Linton and Paddy “Clean Living” O’Brien who are off to take part in the Mountain Mayhem 24-hour mtb race at Eastnor Castle this weekend. This event has been a hellish mud-fest for the last few years so lets hope that the MAD odd-couple can survive without drowning, falling apart or losing the will to live.

2009 Irish NPS XC Sports Category
2As a result of the feedback from a survey launched in 2008 re: Irish XC Racing, the current Offroad Commission recognised strong concern amongst XC Sports category riders regarding significantly faster riders competing in Sports, who were winning by a significantly large time margin, when such riders would have been more realistically suited to competing in a more senior category commensurate with their abilities. This issue had the effect of discouraging/intimidating a large number of Sports competitors.
As a result, the Offroad Commission will introduce the below initiatives to try ensure riders race in an appropriate category for their capabilities.
The Sports category is intended to be a category which introduces mountainbikers to XC Racing.

MAD Cyclocross Race This Weekend
0MAD are running Round 2 of the Supercross Cup this weekend in Tymon Park, Tallaght. The race takes place in the North part of the park and promises to be a fast and technical course with a good run-up along the way.
The underage race will begin at 12 noon, with races for all Senor categories at 1pm. Mountainbikes are welcome to take part.
Thanks to all the MAD members who have volunteered to assist at the race. If you haven’t been given a job for the day why not come along and spectate or even give the race a go – this will be an ideal introduction for anyone planning on racing next year.
